Dined at the Chequers: the Steak & Ale pie can be recommended. The beer was well kept too, and with the attentive service it all made for a great night. Finally a shout out to the friendly locals; this isn't one of those pubs when the converstations stop as soon as a tourist walks in, a welcoming crowd.
Handy accommodation for attending a wedding at College Farm. Friendly staff and clean room. The owner is very dedicated, around at all hours and cooks a good breakfast. Great selection of Whisky and there is a wide variety of snacks. We really enjoyed the food. They have a 5* food hygiene rating too! Lots of wildlife in the surrounding fields, watch out for the pheasants!
Wow ????
Absolutely delicious and the size of the portions are really good. From the starter to the desert we could not stop eating. Everything cooked to perfection ???? with love and passion. Very friendly local people. We will come back.
What a quaint little pub. Called in for a beer and some food.had a nice pint of wherry and the food was very nice. Service was 100 % didn't stay in the rooms so can't comment on that side.but lovely place.
Normally have had a decent meal here. However yesterday the meal was very poor. The cheese burger my wife ordered was terrible. The bun was far too big, probably about 7ins round and about 5 inches tall. It was cold and dry. The burger was about 4ins round. It was hard and the edge was so hard it was unedible. We informed the young lady and she said she would let the chef know. When we paid, not a word was said. Just to make it worse, the peas I ordered with my fish came disguised as salad. Very, very disappointed.
Went with friends for Sunday lunch. The roast dinners we had were very good. Unfortunately the desserts were a let down, We ordered apple crumbles with custard. There was very little crumble on top and what was there was completely raw and I found it inedible. We complained to the young waitress and she look embarrassed but neither she nor the manager apologised. Would hesitate to go there again.
Quirky, homely and warm little pub/restaurant. Just love the decor with the old gas lamps, low ceilings and big wooden beams.
Food was gorgeous, large portions and very good value for money.
Staff were friendly and good fun, knew how to have a laugh which was good when there was 5 lads in there for a meal.
Would definitely return again if in the area.
Me and my work colleagues came to the Chequers for our Christmas work meal. Firstly the food was absolutely lovely and we couldn't fault it! So compliments to the chef.
However... That was definitely the worst service we have ever experienced! From the moment we sat down the two young waitresses were rude and we felt like an inconvenience to them. They were sighing constantly and made no effort to be polite and practice good customer service. Towards the end of the meal the waitresses were getting upset due to us ordering more drinks! All they cared about was getting us out the door. We even started giving them banter back, as we couldn't believe the way the two were behaving! I'm sorry but you just don't expect this as a customer in any establishment... especially as a large table paying over £400!
