Lovely stay in a lovely location.
Staff super helpful. Breakfast was lovely with good choice. Owner was very welcoming on arrival.
Pizza made to order and was very tasty. Only negative was room was very warm with no way to turn the heating off and bathroom was unbearably hot.
Lovely traditional English pub! Comfortable room which fulfilled all our needs. We had a tasty snack lunch which included home made pizza....delicious! Our evening meal was well prepared and my wife had grilled mackerel and I had a sirloin steak. Both superb and very competitively priced! Breakfast was equally good!
Stopped here on way to Somerset. A very warm welcome on arrival after a long drive. The bar area is warm and welcoming with a relaxed atmosphere. The room comfortable and perfect for what we needed. The menu for evening meal was interesting and varied and the food was exceptional, beautifully presented and delicious. The breakfast menu had fantastic choices and cooked to order, very tasty indeed!||Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly return.
Really lovely looking pub but unfortunately the food was awful. We all ordered roast dinners which were small to say the least. The meat portions were such a disappointment and the vegetables practically inedible. I’ve never seen blue cauliflower which just didn’t taste of anything and the Yorkshire puddings were so chewy. We love exploring and finding new places to eat and as pretty and as welcoming this pub was, we won’t be returning.
The Angel, now renamed the Grosvenor, has reopened and what a chic, stylish makeover the new team have created. |Clean and modern but not losing the buildings roots as an Inn|Never really fair to judge on first impressions but three of us decided to dine at the last minute last night and sample the new offering. |The menu is compact, but it appears will change regularly, its well priced with something for all tastes, nibbles, starters, mains and desserts Cooke on site and presented and served to a high standard and quality. |We opted for whitebait and a terrine as starters, my personal hate terrine served straight from fridge sadly last night was no different, but nice flavours and texture all the same. Burger cooked exactly as requested, fish and chips and the highlight of the mains the homemade pie,fab pastry and filling, coupled with a white Rioja all in all a huge success. |The ales I am led to believe were all excellent and the Guinness was perfect too |Worth a visit?most definitely
We visited the Angel one lunchtime, the service was good and the sandwiches were delicious, although the young man who served us forgot the chips! We ordered a pudding to share and although it was delicious, for the money it was very small and not worth what we paid for it, we were very disappointed indeed. Would go again though and just not order a pudding this time.
The pub had recently change hands and reopened on 18th August. The staff were friendly very cheerful and couldn't get better service. The food well what to say wow the steak was cooked to perfection and chips were proper homemade rustic thick chips so yummy. I can't say more than that book now it will be the best thing you'll do.
My third stay at the Angel this weekend and again excellent. Very comfortable, quiet, fresh room and great value at £45 each for a Saturday night stay for my brother and I in a family room (Double + Single). The food and beer is excellent (liver & bacon superb and best Creme Brulee I've ever had here last stay). Access and parking is easy. The staff are very friendly and accommodating for our early rises. If you are looking to stay in the area I definitely recommend the Angel - don't pinch our room though!
