The pub is now a holiday home. It has been converted and you can rent the whole thing to yourselves, bar and all!
Despite an obvious campaign to save the pub for community use (there is a banner on the building next door) it seems the Piddle Inn is a victim of the mass extinction of village pubs, except this one has been thrown a lifeline. Given how many sad, abandoned buildings line our country lanes nowadays, many fated to be demolished or turned into insanely expensive executive housing that no one from the local area can afford, I think what the host has done here is nothing but ingenious.
You are staying in a converted B&B. You can have breakfast at the bar, have lunch out in the garden and dinner at a grand dining table. Afterwards, relax in a sizable lounge or play games in one of the booths. Meals are prepared in the commercially fitted out kitchen, complete with all the kit you could dream of for cooking for hungry hoards.
Every authentic aspect of the pub has been preserved for use by private groups. It is such a novelty, like a weekend-long lock in with just people you want to spend time with!
I think the host should be celebrated for preserving a part of our national heritage and providing a holiday rental that doesn't take a family home out of a housing market that is on its knees.
Yes, it isn't available for community use anymore and it is sad for the handful of villagers who wanted to keep it open. But the widespread epidemic of pub closures over the last two decades has hardly gone undocumented and surely this option is infinitely more favourable than the alternative, which would be a boarded up, eye-sore ghost from a different age, slowly falling into dereliction.
Everything was clean and comfortable. The host was friendly and very chilled out.
There was a bit of damp and I forgot my slippers so had to wear sandles on the well-trodden floors. But even with just a small level of forgiveness for the fact it's a very old building, situated right next to a body of water, you can easily get over those, very minor, imperfections.
Overall, loved the experience and hope to come back with friends very soon.
Had great long weekend here for an 80th birthday and could not have asked for more. You have the entire pub to yourself including a fully equipped industrial kitchen, many different inside seating areas, outside seating with BBQ and fire pit, plenty of parking, four good sized ensuite bedrooms and much more. Thoroughly recommended, hope to go back again in the not too distant future
Do not stay here just awful ???? cold damp, dirty, water leaking through ceiling into kitchen. Never refunded deposit and very unreasonable to say the least. This is not worth the money that is requester at first though delightful little find but don’t be fooled ,
Perfect stay! We had Room 2, and had a lovely view of the river and fields across the way! The room itself was big, as was the bathroom with bath and shower! The bed was very comfy too! As you can expect from a Inn it does get busy and quite noisy in the evening, especially at closing time when you're in bed and trying to sleep but what do you expect? The room/view itself is perfect so it didn't matter to us at all! The landlady was brilliant, hardworking, and friendly! The evening meals and drinks excellent and great value (Cheap!!) And the Breakfast was excellent too! What a lovely place to stay! We will be back one day! ????????????
Lovely atmosphere, great home cooked food and a warm welcome by a very good host behind the bar who served us perfectly. We sat by the well stoked fire place, perfect for a cosy evening meal. Can’t fault this place, a very homely, clean and happy country pub. We’ll be visiting again soon no doubt.
I stayed for nearly 2 weeks while I was attending a course. I’m disabled and Clive and Arlene couldn’t have been more accommodating. The room was very comfortable and the food was of a very good standard. I had asked for a packed lunch every day which was always great. I can’t recommend the piddle inn highly enough. Also the locals very very welcoming in the bar in the evening.
We stayed for three nights and were very happy.
Our room was bigger than we imagined and The River Piddle was just outside our window.
The hosts were fabulous, the food and drinks were lovely and the locals were also friendly.
We did two fairly long walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside which we found on the village website.
If you fancy staying in a characterful Inn with gorgeous surroundings you can't go wrong.
Unique stay in an old pub in the village of Piddletrenthide, four of us had the place to ourselves, the Inn is so large so there is no lack of room.
The Piddle Inn is located in beautiful Country surroundings, with a running stream and plenty walks available across the open fields.
It is not very often you get to have a whole run of the pub, that still has the bar and full kitchen still in place, which we made good use of.
If you are looking for an unusual to stay, definitely add the Piddle Inn to your Staycation shopping list.
** Please note food images are food we prepared in the Piddle Inns commercial kitchen **
