The lodge was filthy. The room was obviously not cleaned after the last guests.
Dead Flys on the window sills. The rubbish bin had not been emptied. The smoke detectors were in a draw with the batteries taken out. The jug cord has electrical tape on it. The seal on the fridge was hanging off. No hot water in the room and the water that came out of the tap was rusty. And as for the building, well rough would be an under statement.
Not impressed and will not be staying there again. And will not recommend it to my friends.
Looks a bit tatty but was ok. Let run down as owner busy with pub and restaurant which is great. Great park to buy. Not take over lease. Park owners are Oamaru developer family not showing interest in park . Shame really as could be great again in the hands.
We stayed there in mid January but never again. The camp was filthy & the showers & toilets only had a superficial clean once in the week we were there & that was only after our neighbours complained. Shower fittings were broken, cracked basins & open drains running they the back of the showers (no problem in themselves) but hair was lying in there for the week. And as for the kitchen!!!!!! This is not a budget camp so we were all very disappointed. I can now see why they have a no returns policy.
This place has long been closed down
We stayed for the second time this summer (having previously stayed two years ago) and WILL NOT be returning. The one kitchen, shower and toilet block was filthy! In the week that we stayed, it was only given an 'ok' clean once. There were a number of minor maintenance issues that weren't addressed such as soap dish broken off in shower, constantly running taps etc. Lawns were not mowed. Not once did we see management or staff walking around the grounds to ensure they were clean. I would not recommend for anyone to stay here. The price is above other camping grounds in the district which are much cleaner and well-presented.
Absolutely disgusting ablution block which would cringe if any cleaning product went near, check-in at the pub was done by the most rude, sour sarcastic person. The indoor pool ???????????? green with towels, bottles, leaf rake and other debris in it, the chemical shed unlocked so children could access and inches of leaves on the ground. Never again!!! Would recommend staying on the river edge for $20 per night.
Biking happily with 4 pals on the Alps to Ocean. Showing our UK friends more of the great kiwi places. Stayed in some lovely accoms from Cook /Aoraki. But this place is the pits! $36pp so not even dirt cheap! I’m a tramper but most mountain huts are better than this. Grotty kitchen with mouse droppings in pots -appliances looked ancient and wiring dubious. One zip boiler dripping madly. Bullet holes in lounge ceiling, sofas strewn with beer bottles. Bedrooms arranged down a draughty corridor-small , torn wallpapered, cracked single glazed windowpane, with old beds ( sheets were clean but I hesitated to look under at the mattress.) Loos / showers austere with old leaky plumbing - looked like a prison ( I imagine!). Place looks shut up as one arrives. Were met by 2 tourists warning us to ‘get out of here ‘ ( they were on their way) , but we had already paid! Next time we WILL look at trip advisor before confirming. This place lets down our reputation as a hospitable, fair go country. I am going to ask the council to inspect for health and safety. Shocking!!!!
Our first view of the Otematata Holiday Park had us wondering what we'd come to. Old ramshackle buildings in need of a good paint & repairs. We stayed in the camping ground & the ablution block had cracked basins & very basic although good hot showers. The kitchen had no oven although did have a microwave & 2 fridge freezers. The only reason I'm giving this a 3 & not a 1 or 2 was that everything was kept lovely & clean. The price paid was up there with modern up to date camping grounds so I thought this camp was very overpriced for what it was.
