Every day at 5.00pm, as I sojourn past Webber’s Fish Bar on Commercial Street on my way to Nelson’s welcoming Coop to pick up bargain reduced items, I am tempted by the airborne aroma of fresh battered fish (a quick battering with a truncheon is the most humane way to kill ‘em) frying deep in pure vegetable-sourced oil. Well, last night I could no longer resist temptation, so on my way home, somewhat damp from God crying Angels’ tears, I went in and ordered Plaice ‘n Chips (“Salt, vinegar and lemon, please, no Tartar”). I had to wait a short while, which assured me that the fish was freshly fried, then I went home and stuffed the whole lot (I didn’t eat the lemon rind). It was darn good! This Fish Bar doesn’t acclaim itself to be multi-award-winning, like other fish bars in the nether regions of Wales, who think that all fish is cod and anyway wouldn’t know it from a wet sock. No. Webber’s has a full range of well-sourced fresh fish, as well as many items to please carnivores, plus some in-house specialties. Not cheap as chips, but good value, and the Webber team are polite, friendly and efficient. I can’t wait to be tempted again.
Great choice of food. Food piping hot. Superb quality of food. Great value. Staff friendly
How this doesn't win fish shop of the year is beyond me. Beautiful food and the best fish that I have ever tasted plus an extensive menu. We have recently tried their Xmas menu, truly outstanding!
Excellent chips and good portions. Had the BBQ pulled pork which was amazing. Highly recommend
Nice Cod and Chips. Same price, £8.50 as Joe's in Trelewis, but fresher fish.
Chips were a bit cool, and had obviously been fried hours before. Could do with bigger chips too.
Well packed in modern cardboard box. It was not crowded either.
Next visit 21st September was equally good quality.
Worth a 2 mile drive for the best fish ( and chicken) .overall a fabulous chippy????????
I'm not one to write bad reviews but i Just ordered 2 sausage and chips, and I got 2 trays of hardly any chips maybe a mouthful of cold chips in each. Absolutely ridiculous. I've just put the oven on to cook my hungry kids some more food. Complete waste of £10. Won't be returning. I think they have started using trays so it's less chips.
Service was excellent, the fish and chips were cooked to perfection, best I have tasted in a long time.
