It was a really nice place.
The biggest issue was the football being so loud over the band that were setting up.
I'll happily go again but definitely not on a match day.
Good food. Awful experience.
Booked a table early Sat evening for family meal after seeing the Good recent reviews. The small restaurant was busy, not with diners but with a couple of large tables of lads watching the football.
After ordering drinks our server brought the menus and immediately told us two dishes were no longer available and there were only 2 portions of rice left if anyone wanted curry. When she returned my wife and grandson wanted the burgers but were told these too were off - all this by 6.30pm.
At this point we were ready to leave but reluctantly agreed to stay when offered an alternative of chicken burgers.
The atmosphere worsened as we waited as the levels of 'banter' and open vaping increased and eventually asked to move tables.
The food when it arrived was really good. The chicken burgers were excellent using fresh, well seasoned chicken breast and my butter curry was also very good.
Unfortunately our evening was further marred by a confrontation when I went to the toilets and i couldn't leave quick enough.
While the food is certainly good our experience means we won't be back.
Overall they need to decide what their business model is - do they want to have a proper, separate dining experience or is it just a pub/sports bar?
Been here a few times now, and the food is SO nice, never fails, good atmosphere, chilled vibes, my favourite place to go eat now ????????
Lovely little brunch - poached eggs and smoked salmon on sourdough toast. Great service and staff. 10/10 ????
We came here for our friend’s wedding meal. Food was incredible! Squid and halloumi bites are honestly the best I have ever had and the fish and chips were unreal. Lovely little find and will definitely be returning again. The team were really lovely and special mention to Chloe who looked after us ❤️ thank you xx
There is now a new head Chef who worked in various places including The London Carriage Works, the food was delicious......and we both appreciate our food. My partners opinion on the calamari 'the best he has anywhere, including Venice/Portugal!' Staff super friendly, relaxed atmosphere, not formal, worth a visit.....maybe take in the Shakespeare North Playhouse whilst you are here too!
Coso’s food at The Mermaid is fantastic! We went for our meal today and it was absolutely gorgeous! Loved everything that we ordered - amazing ambience, friendly staff and reasonably priced! Would highly recommend the gambas pil pil, bbq ribs, chicken wings and the lamb shank- the sauce was unreal ! Also the jam served with halloumi fries was finger licking good! Overall a great experience and the food definitely made us happy :) will come back

The food was fabulous
As a seasoned Traveler and someone who appreciates good food I have to say this was fantastic
A personal favourite was the twist to the calamari which was delicious
And the cocktails are great too
