The lodge itself was beautiful, and I loved being able to bring the dogs with me. The bed was very comfortable, the cabin was lovely and warm, and it was very easy to relax and feel at home there.
The only downside in the lodge was that the toaster was questionable, and the knives were unbelievably blunt.
The shop was incredibly well stocked, the quality in there was such a surprise but it's well worth a visit. You could easily visit for a week and have enough supplies to cook every night.
The restaurant was a letdown. The steak was thin, tough, and folded in half to make it look thicker. The drinks were good, and the bar had a nice atmosphere.
The dog walks just off the site were great, we enjoyed them very much. The golf course was also very well kept for winter, and it was very easy to get a tee time.
The lodges were stunning and are equipped to a very high standard with everything that you could need. The location is brilliant with lots to do in the local area. Can highly recommend the hot box spa which is only a mile away and also the on site restaurant.
As said previously, by others, a house not a lodge. On the whole the decor was fresh and lovely, looked liked curtains were recently purchased but carpets a bit tired. The view from the living room and front bedroom was stunning. I would have given 5 stars if I had not needed to go to hotel for a lighter for fire, the complementary doggy gift as well as salt and pepper. However, the young gentleman manning the closed hotel on 1st April could not have been more helpful and found all the things I wanted and said to phone if we needed anything else and they would bring it to us. The pillows and duvets were spotless.||As a result of covid there was a reduction in items in the house and items were mismatched or missing. An inventory would sort this out for change over staff. The result in the reduction of crockery and glasses meant we had to put dishwasher on after every meal. ||The doggy welcome pack was certainly not 5 star. A bag with a ball, some treats and 1 pooh bag. I think previous accomodation set the standard too high. The doggy welcome pack had a packet of pooh bags, a bag of good quality treats, a towel and a toy.||Hopefully, once covid settles the full set of crockery and matching cutlery will return. Some local biscuits in the coffee and tea welcome pack would be welcome. So maybe next visit I will be able to give 5 stars.
Stayed in Cairntoul for two nights with friends. ||Property was lovely! Well equipped, with plenty of space for everyone. Bedrooms were great, and the showers were really powerful. There was parking for two cars right outside and the views over the river were really beautiful. ||Icing on the cake was the hot tub, lots of time was spent in here over the two nights!||There are only a couple of things that could improved on, the toilet seat in on of the bathrooms was a bit loose and the blinds didn’t quite close in one of the bedrooms. Bit of an issue when the main road is directly in line with this window! Nothing that took away from the enjoyment of our stay though. ||Would highly recommend a stay here, we had a great time.
This is our second visit to these lodges and they haven’t changed in the 6 years since we stayed. We loved it the first time around. The cottage was tired, the leather on the sofa was flaking, the mattress was so uncomfortable and when I stripped the bedding the pillows were yellow. There were marks on the wall and it was generally just grubby and unloved. ||||I paid for a bottle of Prosecco to be put into the lodge for our arrival as it was my husbands 40th. It wasn’t there when we arrived and I had to chase it up twice. We also took our puppy with us and there were clear instructions to clear up the dog mess understandably. The garden was a mess and clearly hadn’t been cleaned from a previous dog’s stay. Our puppy found rubbish, a lighter and also a sock in the garden! ||||The food in the restaurant wasn’t great although the staff were very attentive. ||||In the kitchen there is literally only two of everything so you’re constantly having to wash things. ||||I emailed on our return and was told it had been passed to the manager who has never been in touch. ||||Overall, this was a disappointment. We thought it would be special for my husbands birthday but he wasn’t impressed. They’re definitely not luxury yet still charging the price of one. ||||It’s sad to say but we wouldn’t stay here again.
Finally managed to get away with 2 friends on our itison deal. ||Having read some of the recent reviews, I was a little bit apprehensive. I’m not sure if perhaps some of the smaller properties maybe need a bit of renovation perhaps? However, we stayed in the Cairn Toul for two nights. ||We had an absolutely fantastic time! The location was amazing- right beside the river with a view to die for. The place was spacious, warm and well-equipped. The hot tub was an added bonus. Three good-sized double bedrooms with modern bathrooms, plenty pillows and covers and towels and wardrobes. ||This was such a beautiful, peaceful, place to be and I would definitely go back
The lodge we stayed in for 3 nights was really nice and well appointed. View of the spectacular scenery was second to none. Lodge needs a little maintenance but nothing major and to be classed as luxury, toiletries need to be increased a little. However, overall we had a wonderful holiday.
Like many other reviewers here, our experience was very disappointing. This accommodation is certainly not 5 star by any stretch of the imagination. We experienced issues with the wifi, the heating did not work, the place stank of fried food, the carpets were stained and worn, there was mould in the bathroom, the PAT testing on the electrical appliances was out of date, the garden was overgrown with weeds, the fence was falling apart, paint was flaking off the outside walls and windows and the whole place was unfortunately very tired and shabby. Certainly not worth the money. A great pity given the lovely location, but best avoided.
