Regarding the restoration of my classic heritage Mercedes SL upon purchase I entrusted Ian Belcher to assess and subsequently undertake works totalling circa £4,672,02 I feel quantified in giving the following negative review.
The work I had done there was substandard and had to get the majority that he did re-done by local professionals, including some body and painting works that he took five weeks to finish after me having to chase him and that were subsequently condemned by the local professional auto body shop that he had the Audacity to slag off to gain my business who completed further major works finished to showroom condition within two weeks .
As part of the refurbishment works I entrusted him to undertake he so called re-conditioned the starter motor that soon became faulty that he said would incur a further charge to be taken off and looked at again within the year that it should of been under warranty, so I had to pay to get a new one fitted by Mercedes Sandown - who performed a video health check on my classic SL whilst doing further works including replacing the timeing chain , as I was starting to have doubts about Ian Belchers mechanical ability and poor quality of service and they highlighted in the video health check that he had run a replacement fuel line pipe through a metal bracket without reinstalling the rubber bush protection surrounding it and if they hadn't of found this I was advised that the pipe would of worn against the bracket with the potential of petrol leakage and fire risk. Further - they highlighted that he installed an after market fuel filter that was causing fuel starvation to the V8 engine upon starting and that anyone with any Mercedes R107 SL knowledge would know this , so I had to pay Sandown to fit an Mercedes original part at extra cost also.
The list goes on and I have the invoices and receipts of having his works condemned and paid to have rectified to prove it .
Overall a very expensive and time consuming lesson learned and I now only entrust main dealer Mercedes at Sandown to take care of my valuable heritage classic car.
I do reffer trusted business when warranted , however, unfortunatley regarding Ian Belcher and his business I feel it is only correct to warn of the dishonest and unprofessional costly service that I personally experienced there.
Dean was so quick at responding and managed to get my car in pretty quick and all fixed at a very fair price, thank you
