Lovely afternoon in clean beautiful oldy worldie setting where had afternoon tea.
Busy for feb mainly restuarent cafe and few shops. Really nice to meet up friends/ family nice atmosphere
Went for a family lunch at the carvery on Sunday. The food and staff were absolutely excellent. They have a good system in place to ensure that the carvery service runs smoothly. Unfortunately, the downside is that they seem to have no control over people just walking in and taking a table, even though it says 'Reserved' on it. We had rung ahead and booked a table as we knew it would be busy. When we arrived, we were just about to be shown to our table when four other pushy people descended on it. Luckily there was another table available which we took. I think the way to stop this is to have a clear sign to say 'Please wait to be shown to a table'. This would avoid people just walking straight in and taking tables that other people have bothered to call up and reserve. Having said all this, the food and everything else about the experience could not be faulted.
Since the new owners have taken over earlier this year (no longer run by Hayden!), I have visited this 'restaurant' twice in the past couple of months, the second time hoping that it had improved - clearly it has not!
Upon my first visit, I was told that I needed to go sit down and wait for a member of the waiting staff to come over and take my order, when there was a sign up stating that you had to go to the counter to order. After waiting FORTY-FIVE MINUTES to even have my order taken, the food arrived twenty minutes later. However, my drink (which was ordered at the same time as my food) arrived AFTER I had finished my meal!
The staff were unapologetic and rude, and the member of staff that served me had blood down his shirt and on his order book, as well as all over his hand. Not very hygienic when he was carrying plates of food! Was it too much to ask to clean yourself up before tending to other customers!? It would have only taken five minutes! Not a good impression for the customers!
The food itself was of below average quality for the price I had paid, and the portion size average. As for my drink, it was awful and tasted sour.
As for my second visit, I was hoping that things had improved and that maybe the new owners were just having some initial teething problems...
This time, you did have to order from the counter rather than having to wait for a member of staff to come over and take your order.
I was informed that there was about a 30 minute delay on food. This time it was actually almost an hour, although I did get my drink straight away. The food was okay, nothing special, average taste and quality.
Needless to say, I was thankful that there wasn't bleeding, rude waiting staff this time, but if things carry on like this, the place will be run into the ground before anyone knows it and that would be such a shame because the Watermill itself is a lovely place!
Great place for a meal with some really different and interesting items on the menu many of which and home made. Would definitely recommend a visit really great food and friendly staff with very reasonable prices. Will be back for sure (especially for the homemade fish finger sarnie yummy!)
Friendly relaxed cafe with nicely presented, tasty mix of sandwiches, ciabatta and baguettes. Cakes are good old-fashioned recipes served generously. Does breakfasts, cream teas and light lunches too. Usually busy and a bit noisy at peak times. People in wheelchairs or with mobility problems may find access difficult.
Not a bad cafe. Limited menu. OK if you're pleased with a baked potato or a sandwich or a slice of cake. Staff friendly and helpful. Feels cramped with all the tables and chairs. Prices a little on the High side for what you get.
Amazing vegan banoffee cake. All the cakes were hand made and could see the lady making things there. Friendly staff and the furnishing in their was brilliant it was like you was at a tea party.
Used to be an excellent place for lunch, I wouldn't bother now unless you would like a menu comparable to the dining car of a train. Want a sandwich they have you covered. go to your local Wetherspoons the food is cheaper and have a better menu range.
