We spent a few days in a holiday lodge nearby. After spending the day out on sunday, we stopped off for a meal here. We called ahead as we were arriving after the carvery had finished however the chef had beef leftover and accommodated us with 3 roasts and a mixed grill.
The food was good and we were all blown away by the size of the portions. The service was good and we all had an enjoyable meal.
Enjoyed the food right price for environment, wonderful helpful staff, quiet on a Sunday evening.
Hammer platter is huge, mainly battered. Sausage and mash good but onion gravy pushes It up a notch. Chilli ok
Personally really enjoyed it
After asking if Sunday lunch was available..which they said yes...we were served with a plate of left over mush. We asked why there was no roast potatoes on our Sunday roast to be told there were none left or no chicken so was given pork. Our plates were piled high with carrots, green beans, a shrivelled up yorkshire pudding and lumpy mashed potato which was cold. I told the young girl who served us, whom seemed very embarrassed, we would have preferred a bit of honesty before they tried to serve customers with their left overs from the carvery. We asked for our bill, refused to pay for the inedible food, but still charged for the 2 drinks we ordered to have with our meal. Woud have been a nice gesture to have been given the drinks as an apology. Won't be going back. Would have given no stars if it had let me.
We had two courses. The roast dinner was very good and the meat was very tender. It was definitely worth the price. There was a good choice of desserts. I am gluten-free and catered for without a problem. A very enjoyable lunch with friends.
Breakfast was amazing, definitely value for money, no issue's with swapping out the eggs for sausage or bacon, very happy ???? ???? ????
Went for lunch today, food was amazing, we had 2 of the burgers and a prawn cocktail as mains, the staff were more then happy to change the prawn cocktail from a starter to a main, then we had desserts, omg amazing treacle sponge and custard, hot fudge pudding with ice cream and lastly a biscoff cheesecake, very attentive and friendly staff, food was out of this world, if you drive past, stop and have something to eat, DO NOT go to the competition across the road, stop at the hammer and pincers, yo will not regret it !!!!
What a gem! Called in on off-chance & was able to park in carpark in motorhome for free. New pub owners of 3 weeks couldn't do enough. Offered to fill our water tanks, & very dog friendly, even went to shop to buy more dog treats for my pooch! Menu is family friendly, well priced, plus veggie options. From bar, with pool table, to quieter saloon, to sunny conservatory & enclosed beer garden (dog enjoyed that!) The owner, John & his wife, and staff offered a friendly welcome to everyone who came through the door.
Highly recommended.
Lovely evening meal here this evening, Donna behind the bar was brilliant, very welcoming and attentive.
Would recommend
Friendly staff, very good customer service. Food was delicious, reasonably priced and very good portions. Definitely recommend.
