Not exactly welcoming. But the 2 sets of people I met both knew or knew of youngsters who had died after jumping from the cliff into the very cold water
Tip: Park for free in lay-by outside the car park (or pay £4 in the car park)
It used to be a very scenic place, now ruined by ugly fencing, barbed wire and security fencing. (due to some unfortunate deaths in the water)
Nice walk up to the hills and to the grounds of Eastnor castle (obelisk)
Former quarry, now a beautiful looking small lake with extremely steep, jagged cliffs. It has now been fenced off since my last visit, due to a number of recent drownings I can understand why but the security fencing sadly looks unsightly.
Lovely walk in the sunshine round Gullet Qually in Malvern. Free lay by parking. The walk itself is along bumpy walkways and is rather steep. There are downhill mountains bike tracks on the way down (selection of jumps). There are beautiful views of the quarry along the walk (although the quarry itself is now fenced off from public access, which is a shame) some nice shaded areas for picnics near the top. Would recommend a visit if you are in Malvern or Worcester
A photographer's view.
Visited to take photographs of the autumnal silver birch in mid-November. I decided to make a day of it and walked from Great Malvern station, up and across the hills to Gullet Quarry.
Gullet is a large disused quarry situated within a small woodland at the southern end of the Malvern Hills. There is a car park and layby no more than 5-10minutes walk from the location which also enables access to the rest of the hills.
As other reviews have stated access to the water is blocked off by security fencing. The path round is heavily wooded, which combined make it awkward but challenging to photograph. There are several gaps on the southern side where photos can be taken looking across to the opposite rockface. There numerous silver birch, and other trees grow, providing some opportunities for pleasing images, though as I say the viewing locations are limited.
It's a good walk at around 24km/15-miles there and back, and took me around 2.5-hours to reach the quarry, not including the 30-min stop I made at 'Sally's Place' for a bacon roll. Note on the way out I did climb each peak from the Worcestershire Beacon, with the exception of the British Camp/Herefordshire Beacon which added to my hike time. There are flatter paths that take you round the peaks, and do make the walk quicker.
For the hike alone I would do it again.
Lovely spot with walk around the area. Actual quarry only a short walk from the carpark.
Sadly, this place has been ruined by all the fencing put up to stop people from drowning. Might as well fill the thing in.
Used to a beautiful place to visit. Ruined by fencing and barbed wire. Parking £5.25 total rip off. Causing people to block the roads by parking on the road instead.
