Best KPortal Reviews

Don't believe all the "attitude" reviews you hear on here. (Not sure what their motivation is and not reflective of our experience) We went in 3 times over the weekend and was served by 2 different women. Both were extremely pleasant, chatty and helpful. If I'm honest we went in to experience the attitude based on the reviews and were disappointed by the welcoming friendly professional staff. Bakery is amazing. Would recommend scotch pie, steak bake, fruit slice and potato scones.
Horrendous Customer Service! If I could give zero stars I would!
I have visited the Port regularly for many years now as friends and family have caravans in the area. I always find the women who work in this shop at best very unfriendly towards visitors and, on many occasions, downright rude. It's almost as if they hate visitors from out of town and go out of their way to be as unfriendly as possible. Which seems strange, given that revenue from visitors must form a large part of their income...
On my most recent visit, my husband and I entered the shop whilst the member of staff (older lady) was serving one local customer at the glass part of the counter where the cakes and sandwich fillings are. We stood behind this customer as we were going to order sandwiches. There was no-one else in the shop. During this time, several other customers, including 2 teenage girls who worked at the bar opposite, and one local man, entered the shop and stood at the till behind us to be served. There could have been absolutely no confusion (perhaps only to a blind person) who was next to be served (us!). The employee said her goodbyes to the lady in front of us and proceeded to COMPLETELY IGNORE US and walk past to serve the girls at the till.
My husband stated politely that we were next to be served. The employee stated in a very rude tone that the queue was at the till, about 3 foot behind us. Just utterly bizarre...
After an awkward silence, we left and went to the newsagent across the road where the staff were lovely. Happily for them, they said they had been doing quite well out of people's bad customer service experiences and complaints about Gillespie & Sons.
Having read a number of negative reviews of this store, I can only assume that the reason this shop remains open and people keep going back when treated like this, is due to the fact it's a small town and there are very limited other options!!!
I genuinely am not the type of person that likes to rant about things and write negative reviews. I always champion small local businesses and try to live my life in a way that shows kindness to others. There is no room in this world for horrible, rude people. As the saying goes, 'in a world where you can be anything, be kind'. And maybe do a crash course in customer service skills!!!! Disgusted. Won't be back and will also be sending a copy of this review to friends and family to advise them of the same.
Had a bridie which was delicious and not expensive. Lady in shop was very helpful and smiley. Sometimes people react to the way you are to them ... maybe! We certainly had nothing to complain about Thank you
Ice cream and scones might be award winning but on a quiet Sunday in a small port town I would have hoped for better customer service. Nothing special just approach your customer with some respect.
Shop keeper looked twice at me standing waiting to be served but continued loading shelf’s and going into the back for more stock, I gave a polite smile as you would to let them know you are ready, still nothing.
When the female shop keeper final acknowledged me they approach and stood some 3 meters away (said nothing) at the end of a long till area. I asked for some ice cream and was told to come to the top at the till to order.
Ordered and was told prices are different as they haven’t updated the window but have had enough time to write them all down at the till.
Such a shame, service is much better at the boardwalk from the 16 year old trainee.
Good wee bakers shop. Fresh morning rolls pastries and cakes Awarded for best potato scones. Clean with efficient service
Not sure how to review this as part of the appeal of going was the legendary reviews of the grumpy and rude lady! Unfortunately we found her pleasant, chatty and helpful!!! Have to say we were a bit disappointed! ???? we especially loved the chilled wine fridge and we found plenty of food stuffs to cover lunch, supper and breakfast for our onward travels in our wee campervan. We have no choice but to highly recommend! ???? we will be back to hopefully encounter the "grump" ????
Visited today to look for souvenirs of this lovely village. Unlike other local businesses, the woman working here was very miserable and horrible. She was making horrible comments about those public service workers striking for a better quality of life. If she isn’t happy in her work, then she should simply quit her job. I had an item that wasn’t enough for the contactless payment limit and said I’d keep browsing, but she muttered comments about people walking in and not purchasing items and stating its a shop, to this point I put down my item and went next door to the cafe where the ladies had a lovely and welcoming attitude and smile. Not at all surprised when reading the other reviews about this womans attitude.
Brilliant, nipped in for bits this morning, the lady in the shop couldn't have been nicer. Spot on and a good range of things that you'd need. ????
