I'm making this a go-to place after shopping on a Saturday morning!
Every time my partner and I have attended, it has been around about 830ish in the morning. It's always been quiet at this time, so I can't really state how busy it does get. For me, it's the perfect time to chill, relax, and enjoy the ambience. They do play some amazingly eclectic music as well, which also helps with the atmosphere. Funky decor, too!
To the food and drinks now. The kitchen isn't open at this time on a Saturday, which isn't a big issue for me (one day I'll go back when the kitchen is open to sample their menu). The reason being is they have lush cakes to enjoy with your drinks. The mocha drink has always been on point, and my partner rather enjoys the pot of tea she has.
The server at this time in the morning has always been polite and courteous, as well as really approachable if I have any questions, like if they sell the Puppy Potion brown sauce.
Been here a couple of times in the last few weeks, on Sunday we tried the chefs special calamari fritti, accompanied by a glass of excellent white wine, was perfect in the glorious sunshine, the calamari was cooked to perfection. My friend had the chicken salad and I had to be cheeky and try some, it tasted as good as it looked. Appears to be a very new team here but they're doing a good job and are so friendly accommodating and professional. Keep it up guys
Pricier than I'd normally go, but for our day out and the quality of the food??
Totally worth it.
It's called the "Uncommon Ground" now.
Tried this place today for the first time today. Pleasant enough, with good coffee and I liked the range of Welsh cakes and savoury options on offer. It just felt a bit tired - dark interior and a dirty, neglected terrace - and the waitress was going to charge me £19 for two drinks, five Welsh cakes and a scoop of ice-cream, until I queried it. Turned out she'd charged for an additional coffee for some reason. A bit sloppy.
Brilliant service and really nice coffee lovely atmosphere warm and cosy AND more importantly very honest staff .
I had lost my purse and Nathan very kindly ???? kept it this team of staff are a credit to the place everyone was so helpful to me don't drive past a good welcome awaits ????
lovely drinks nice atmosphere lovely food by the park
Although the decor is trendy and the staff friendly, the actual service was poor. We have been here many times before and each time there has been some problem- wrong food, cold food, slow service etc. We were here to give it one last try today. And this confirmed everything- we won't be back.
We asked for poached eggs, but were given fried. Pepper mill was empty- the cafe only has ONE pepper mill for everyone...and it took me asking three times to two different people to get it refilled- like it was a MASSIVE ask. The HP sauces were old and near empty. No spares. Asking for water for the dog was a big deal even though it is supposedly a dog friendly place...
Food was ok, but a bit bland with stingy portions.
They were more focussed on fuss fuss fussing with coffees. Even though we ordered food which was more expensive!
We felt like this place was taking advantage of wealthy Whitchurch clientele who are more willing to pay through the nose for poor service, without complaint.
We wanted to support local, independent businesses but I'm afraid the service needs to improve hugely.
We won't be back.
Unfortunately, there was no food available when we visited, but Rachel couldn't do enough for us, offering toast or tea cakes. I love this coffee shop, friendly & welcoming. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
