I have got mix feelings abut this place.
1. Service - sometimes staff is very friendly, sometimes not even trying to be, looking a bit angry when I want to pay by card.
2. I like bread and vegan sausage rolls. I love supporting local businesses so always trying to buy something here instead of Greggs. And because they are here ages - I trust them more in case of ingredients and quality.
3. Coffee is OK. Different but I still enjoyed it.
4. I would change, repaint tables/chair. Make it more fancy as the elevation outside looks great, tables looks cheap. But nice pictures connect with Buxton.
Good to try.
This has to be the worst place for food that I have ever been to. Ordered a pasty to eat in, it came warm, with no garnish, it looked a very sorry state on its undersized plate and its taste equally underwhelming in fact down right disgusting. I also ordered a latte which I think missed the crucial element of coffee, this had to be returned. The service was as equally as bad, with very low levels of customer interaction and a total absence of social skills. Who ever runs this establishment needs to make some serious improvements!!!!
The cafe is nice, clean & lovely staff unfortunately I didn't like my veg bake as it's cold and not appetising for me, bland but I can see the veg seems decent. None the less, it's not for me
Got a loaf of sourdough from Fitzgerald and it was very disappointing, one of the worst sourdough loaves I've ever had. I am fairly sure it was baked yesterday at the earliest. Smelled very nice, but when we got it home it was as hard as a rock, felt like it was stale. Bread itself was very dry and the crust was almost impossible to bite through. Had to toast it to make it edible.
At £3.50 for a loaf of bread I would expect something really nice but was sorely disappointed. The only thing I would recommend is avoiding the spot. Pains me to say it but you'd be better of nipping through the precinct to Waitrose, you'd get a nicer loaf there.
I will certainly never shop here again.
Tried this place for the second time today. The first time, we asked the scowling older lady behind the counter if we could come in for a meal and the terse response was ‘depends what you want.’ I explained that my daughter was vegetarian and I’d eat anything and was told they couldn’t accommodate, so we left and went elsewhere. Today I thought I’d give them a second chance. We walked in and was told to sit at a table and decide what to have before ordering at the counter. Myself and my daughter cleaned off one of several tables that were still strewn with the last occupants crockery and then realised there wasn’t a menu on any table. Another couple who had just walked in were also looking for a menu. I told them I’d get them one from the counter. I went up to the counter, someone decided to take the table we had just cleaned off and I was then told that they don’t have a menu! Huh? A cafe without menus? There were some items written on a board, that was behind some customers queuing for takeout. The staff were too busy and miserable to help any further, so we went and won’t be back again. The worst experience of a cafe I’ve ever been in. Terrible visit on both occasions. Do they not read their reviews and try to make positive changes?
Callad in here Sat dinner time, staff realy unhelpful asked for a menu reply we dont have one. I ordered drinks + a pastie 2 meat potato pies which were tasteless insipid and cold, there is more atmosphere on the moon dont bother unless you want to come out disgusted.
If you want to be scowled at by rash and unforgiving women then this is the cafe for you. We were belittled for standing in the "wrong" place to order drinks inside even though there were no signs to distinguish between eating in and takeaway. Perhaps it's time to hire some friendlier staff? It is a busy season after all. As we sat here and regretted our venture indoors we watched the cantankerous staff belittle and ignore customers, we watched two customers leave due to awful service, being ignored and spoken too like excrement. When our drinks finally arrived they were slammed down on our table on a dirty tray and we were not told which drink was which, let alone have the tray removed. Is this the worst cafe in the UK? It could be close.
Staff looked miserable, veggie options extremely limited. I had a Vegetable bake and a cheese bap/roll. I wasn't offered the chance to heat the bake. The cheese roll was supposed to be grated cheese, upon opening, it was just a slab, chucked on the roll which was very hard to eat. The veggie bake, had no taste to it and the texture was very dry, like it had been in the window the previous day too. I know I didn't order a gourmet meal or eat in, but I expect nice, edible food that I don't have to throw in the bin on the way back to my train????. In all honesty, I chose Fitzgerald's because, from the outside, it looks like a really nice place, in reality, I wish I had stood and waited 15 mins in the queue for Greggs.
