The Edinburgh Inn- the Croydon of Norfolk.
It was a cold afternoon I found myself upon the doorstep of this inn and weather was bitter. The weather mirrored the tone of our hostess, I felt uneasy in her presence and could sense last night session leaving her body as woefully she showed us to one of the many empty tables.
I remained open minded and hopeful we had stumbled upon a hidden gem. Perhaps this diamond was best left in the rough.
From the kitchen I heard the dreaded familiar sound of a microwave pinging. It was at this moment hope fled.
I estimate it will take at least 6 months of intensive therapy to overcome the pain in my soul this lunch gave me.
Even my emotional support dog was strongly advised to remain underneath the table and of sight from the one lonesome customer staring into his beverage.
The thought of returning to this establishment sends a chill down my spine that doesn't bare to think of.
Great place, real atmosphere and if you know Wells, you'll also know that the locals use this place. Its quirky, its different but if you want some affordable, decent food or a good pint this is the place you want. Once you understand the way the place works and the no nonsense style, you'll soon get used to it. My family have been visiting the area for years and the staff in here are always welcoming, friendly and actually give some great appreciation knowing that we've come back to use their establishment again. Whenever we leave Wells, its 'The Eddy' that we miss most.
Used Edinburgh Inn several times on a break in Wells and enjoyed each visit. Staff friendly and efficient and there was a nice atmosphere with a mix of locals and visitors like ourselves. Not quite so impressed with the attached restaurant (Ollie’s) but did like the pub.
Popped in for a few pints with my wife and dog today (27/12/23) the pub had a lovely fire, great selection of drinks , lovely pint, popular place, great outdoor area , major let down was the barman with the Hollister T shirt on , (his house in on the market apparently) everything was an effort, chip on his shoulder, not polite to an old chap next to me trying to use his card while he had tremors, he served people he knew before others standing patiently at the bar , clearly shouldn't be working behind a bar , we will return but I'll ask the other amazing, happy and professional barman to serve us
I like this place. Don’t know about the hotel side of the business. The bar operation seems to be separate from the food, and you pay at different tills. You can’t ask the waitress for drinks, you have to get them yourself from the bar. As such the barman wasn’t that interested in the diners which is understandable. The food was nice and better value for money than lots of similar places in Wells. The whole place could do with a refurb but I was happy with the 1980s style ????
Best sausage & mash...
Local butcher sausages and fresh potato mash. Piping hot served in a giant Yorkshire with homemade gravy.
Nice pub, friendly staff, good prices , great selection of beers
Excellent, friendly service but we were very disappointed with our bland, tasteless meal.
