Not a lot to say really. Just popped in for a quick drink on one of our walks. Pleasant staff. Seems clean. Not the cheapest but it is in a small town with only 3 more establishments to compete with. They have a pool table and a darts board. High turnover of landlords. They do food but it's only a small menu.
Next to a Co-Op store, with parking for visitors, although most of the customers are locals within walking distance. A generally quiet pub which livens up with live band evenings, worth a visit especially for the exceptional food. The menu is small, but the focus is on quality and definitely not gastro-pub identi-menus. Go elsewhere if you just want the same you get there.
We had a family meal at The Dog & Rat Tavern August '13, we were stopping at the nearby QHotel where the meals were overpriced and not great. The Dog & Rat on the other hand was very friendly, family friendly, great value for money and a gem to find. The food was home cooked and tasty, staff very friendly and welcoming, and great value - all our meals cost the same as one course at our hotel. Well worth a visit!!!! Thank you!
Been for the last 2 weeks running for Sunday dinner and it's excellent. Huge portion of home cooked dinner at a very good price very welcoming staff and nice relaxed atmosphere. Great place for a family meal
Was hired to clean windows by some guy and when I turned up to do it I got half way through and was shouted at by the female manager to f*ck off and then verbally abused. She was incredibly hostile and massively insulting. She should never be in the business of customer service with such an anger problem.
Land lady Cheryl was very accommodating and warm. We will definitely be visiting for some food soon!
No one here changing landlords to often has killed it but nothing wrong with the current landlord
