Best KPortal Reviews
This may seem like a delayed review, which it is, but with a two year warranty you don’t bite the hand that you may need in the future. I’ve sold the car now so here is the review.
Mixed feelings really. I had a complete engine rebuild on a Porsche 911. The price was very good although these things always end up more expensive than first (agreed) discussed. It was a basic rebuild with no fancy bits being added and no machining done. The work was carried out in a reasonable time frame but still longer than discussed.
The problems came after the job was done. For context it’s a 200 mile trip each way for me.
When I picked up the car the first time I was half way home and noticed at the services that oil was leaking from the right side of the engine. When I got home I found it was leaking from the cam end seal. I arranged with my insurance company for the car to be recovered back to the garage. Sure enough the cam end seal had been pinched during replacement and had to be replaced again. Done by D9 promptly and without complaint. I then had to go and collect the car.
Once home again I carried out an inspection and found that the driveshafts had been replaced without gaskets. Rather than send it back again I decided to rectify this myself. While doing this I removed the exhaust and found oil inside. I also found that a washer had been trapped between the head and the header causing an exhaust blow. One of the exhaust valves on the left side was leaking.
D9 agreed to come and collect the car. They rectified the issue. I collected the car again.
Other issues were that the tinware had been blown over from a spray can and not properly painted as agreed. Much of my electrics and fuel piping had been reinstalled incorrectly (I had ITBs and EFi) and I had been promised photos of the rebuild which never materialised.
I know that the mechanic was off on holiday the day after he finished my car and I feel like it had been rushed to get it done in time.
Overall the work was shoddy, over ran and was more expensive than agreed. However, problems were rectified quickly even though it cost me in train fares and wasted time travelling to Wales and back.
I have thought long & hard whether to amend my review on this garage as they have fixed our cars in the past. Sadly my head says I cannot leave the positive comments after our last visit with my wifes car. It was losing radiator coolant so we took it in. They diqgnosed a new hose was required & cost us £240 with labour. The next day the car overheated within 5 miles of driving it. We took it back in & then told it was the head gasket! Very dissapointed in the way we were told, no apology, no offer of compensation on what we paid, nothing whatsover. If they would have checked the car & test drove it they would have known that was not the correct diagnosis & not was not fixed. My wife was extremely shaken & distressed with the whole experience. This is certainly not what I expect from a garage that has had so much business from both our cars & not the way to treat a customer in my eyes!
Useless. Took my car here as they were suppose to be ‘specialists in Porsche’ They could not find my coolant leak and charged me £150. My local garage identified the leak in a few hours.
Do not take your loved Porsche to this Garage.
Brilliant service, repaired water leak on my daughters Fiesta in no time at a good rate thanks????
Really disappointing based upon all my previous experiences with the D9 team. Took my 911 for a exhaust swap today which is a pretty simple task as it was a drop form the turbos back and lift up the new one and remount into place. The exhaust I was removing was only fitted the day before and all bolts were replaced so no challenges with rusting bolts etc.
Expected a cost of around 2 hrs tops (and based upon experience that's generous) but as they kindly agreed to fit it in urgently I was happy to pay a premium.
However when I went to pay the bill 1hr 50 mins later I was asked for the equivalent of 4 hrs labour, when questioned they got very defensive and started muttering about the complexity and how I was paying for the skills??? That's what the hourly labour rate pays for isn't it!
Ended up settling on £200 and walking away. It's a real shame because the quality of work is always good but suspect times are hard and I respect that, after all the last 18 months has been hard through pandemic but over charging and not being transparent means people will start to question the honesty and that I'm afraid will not keep customers coming back.
I hope this review is read by the D9 team as I genuinely think the work is of a high standard and would love to see the business continue to serve their loyal customers.
Absolutely excellent work. Just got car back. Porsche 997 needed the rebore done and some engine work. Also had clutch change brakes, IMS bearing and oil pump and other bits.
I was given a quote before dropping my car there. It was a good price and the hourly price of £50 per hour for work on these cars is an absolute bargain. I then asked for some extra bits to be done on the car and at every point along the way I was given a clear price for each work and the new total, before any work was done.
I picked up the car and the final price was exactly what I agreed - no surprises. I had option to take all my old parts with me (no thanks but I can see exactly what was changed anyway).
I'm so happy with the car now I've got it back. It runs awesome feels and sounds like new again and the money I spent on the rebuild will be onto the value of the car anyway.
I can recommend this place definitely - I've got a lot of confidence in this garage and will be using them for as long as I keep the car or own another porsche.
It's funny to see people moaning in reviews about spending a £1k on some repair work for a porsche. I recommend calling the main dealer for a quote for your car before calling D9, and then with the difference in cost you can get a two floor extension put onto your house.
A big thanks to Anthony for the good work.
I Always go there. Thorough but fair MOT's and repair work. Just what I want. They have also always been very helpful regarding my Porsche's through the years and using their vast experience and expertise with high end sports cars have helped me out a lot. They even bought my old Porsche from me for a fair price. No hassle or messing around. They will not lick your boots but will do top grade work for a very reasonable price.
Major service 987 Cayman, cost £1091.
Service included plugs, drive belt rear brake pipes exchanged and brake fluid flush.
Really happy with the work completed but not happy with the work omitted.
Some facts make your own mind up
Coolant low, when I checked the day after the service (I topped up and it has stayed at that level since) I had a leak I was told, I asked were the coolant pipes ok? as part of the major service inspection, the reply to me yes all ok. My reply so where is my leak. .
Oil mark on tan passenger seat has been clean and apology accepted.
Major service carried out yet the car failed mot 2 weeks later with 2 broken suspension springs one of which had been broken for a long time, fractured area was rusted.
Front vents left full of debris.
A/C not reported and not working would have liked indication and a cost to repair.
Car was given back dirty, covered with with dust.
Paid major service and extra (?) labour for belt, plugs, brake pipes and brake fluid flush. total £1091.
When I questioned the whole episode I was sworn at down the phone and told not to return there.
Not from there, but another local Porsche specialist a friend and colleague took his 986 Boxster for major service, had all the work done I had, with a few corrected jobs and a report on the car. all for £480 including all parts and labour, and a full list of issues.
I was also charged £50 an hour where the website says £40, I challenged it but was instructed to pay £50.
Make your own minds' up.
Overall a very unpleasant experience but I am convinced the work that was done was done to a high standard.
