Slow service and moldy panini! The setting was beautiful, but the lack of food options (after twice being told they didn't have my choice-- though all were said to be available) and then being served moldy panini bread for my sandwich, I went elsewhere! The staff never apologised for the problem!! They told me 'well, it was fine this morning!'
The rest of my party had ok food, but I refused to eat at a place that made me feel as though it was my fault they didn't have the items on their menu that I had ordered!
I had stopped visiting the Castle tearooms (as was always disappointed) and so was curious to see what the new 'Da Vinci' would be like... I am so pleased - great to see the new management settling in and bringing a friendly, welcoming atmosphere! We (three generations of my family) have visited since your first day (about 8 weeks back?) and are slowly working through your delightful imaginative menu! This time around I tried the Shropshire Rarebit - very tasty and my what an amazing salad on the side! Katie had the wonderful scrambled eggs, Toby the sausage and eggs (all locally sourced) and the 2 kiddies were treated like royalty with a 'mini-me' version of sausage and eggs which they thoroughly enjoyed! Drinks were served promptly - nice and hot. I would highly recommend! If you are looking for a quick fry up or 'microwaved' pre-prepared food then go elsewhere. This is real home cooking - made for you made with love and care.
This is a tea room within the castle walls but outside the area where entrance fees apply. It is very clean and pleasant and the staff were very polite and we'll mannered. We had a nice breakfast but be warned that the mushroom on the breakfast has a very unpleasant rosemary and garlic dressing on, which sounds nice, but actually smelled and tasted horrid. Everything else was very nicely cooked and tasty. I wish all restaurants and cafes would ask before dressing food rather than assuming everyone likes it. There was no warning on the menu that the mushrooms had a dressing on. If it hadn't been for this, I would happily have given 5 stars.
Rude and snotty staff. They seem to think their establishment is cut above the rest. It's not. It really is just a tea room and not a very good one at that. The Castle is fabulous and well worth a visit - but don't bother with the castle tea room. There are much more welcoming places to eat locally such as "The Buttery" which is just over the road.
Top notch cream tea. The scones were delicious and fresh. The helping of clotted cream was a bit stingy but not enough to knock off a star.
The location is also lovely being in the grounds of the castle.
My only complaint is that I was asked whether I wanted tea or coffee with my cream tea. A cream coffee should not be a thing in England.
After a walk around the market and castle what's nicer than a first class sandwich, homemade cake and coffee or their delightful cream tea which is so large you will need a doggy bag. By the way you can take your pooch into the corridor seating area. Ahh lovely end to a nice day out. Well done all the staff at the Castle Tea Room
A rather interesting place to put a tea shop, a good selection of tea, coffees, CAKES, and sandwiches. A little bit squashed, but enough staff to cope with the constant stream of visitors on Saturday when we visited.
The coffee was OK, not awesome, but the Shropshire Blue Cheese scone was awesome not just OK.
I'm afraid there's lots of coffee shops on Ludlow so if I revisit I won't be going back until I've savoured several others for an awesome coffee.
Under new ownership. Now disabled unfriendly!
This used to be a regular welcoming venue for us but we were directed to leave by a woman claiming to be the new owner who stated "I have to think of my other customers".
We had visited twice in the last week, the first time being Boxing Day, we put the unfriendliness shown towards us down to being the new management being under stress on a very busy day, so, we went again on Saturday when it was very quiet.
We had waited for about 5 minutes by the sign asking you to wait to be seated, when a customer sitting nearby suggested we wander through as service was very slow. I jokingly said to her that she would see us route-marched out if this was wrong, I was joking but that is exactly what did happen!
When we wandered through to where a male member of staff had his back to us, as he was working the till, when he turned round I asked if it was ok that we had just wandered through, he apologised that we had been waiting and invited us to sit down, he was very polite.
A moment later the owner marched in demanding that we leave. This woman's behaviour and attitude was horrendous and unacceptable. We did not query or argue but silently and embarrassed we surrendered ourselves to be escorted out. What was our crime - we were just 4 people looking for lunch but 2 of our party are disabled. There are many kinds of disability, mental health being just one of them!
This type of discrimination really needs to end!
I'm response to the owners response:
Please view your cctv very carefully you will see me talking to a customer on the way in, this customer commented on slow service, you will see your husband talking to us very politely and apologising for keeping us waiting (I mistook coffee making for the till as he had his back to us, sorry), you will also see you marching in and requesting us to leave and you stating "I have to think of my other customers".
You claim experience of counselling and mental health, so you should have known how to handle the situation more professionally.
I really think the content and attitude of your response speaks volumes.
