We moved to Grantham 12 years ago, we followed a recommendation from a local to use this chip shop. Until recently it has always been excellent. The last 3 visits have not been so good, to a point on Monday the fish was so overcooked and in so much batter it was only fit for the bin. Great shame, we will not return. We can't afford to throw money away.
It's a chip shop BUT the fish and chips.. Possibly the best in town.
The pukka pie was cooked perfectly.

Visited based on such positive reviews. Lovely, friendly service. Fish and chips completely underwhelming. I'd argue that the previous patrons have suffered from long covid. Chips were brown and tasted like the oil needed changing. Fish was fishy, batter the thick claggy type that absorbs the oil (and see previous) the way bad fried bread does.
After hearing more than good things about Cecil St Fish Bar, we had an excuse to drop in & get the family dinner.
Cod, haddock, batter sausages and chips for all, with lashings of (superb) curry sauce and excellent mushy peas.
Lovely staff, everything cooked fresh & mouth-watering fabulous.
Best fish & chips in Grantham. There's always a queue at tea time which is indicative of great food and service.
Best chippy in town. Freshly cooked to order fish. Good portion size.

Cecil Street Fish Bar is so nice that I regularly ask for a glass of the chip fat to wash down my salad with that the doctors make me eat. I have type 8 diabetes and it really calms my haunting visions.
The owner looks like Mr Monopoly or Bart Simpson. Legend.
