I love this place. What a hidden gem. We came here for one night. Unfortunately there was a cyclist that was staying in the bothy when we arrived and was very upset that we had come and also to stay the night. We wanted the place to himself. He spent several hours in a huff and packed all his things away. His things were everywhere. We said there was plenty of room for both of us but proceeded to be annoyed. He opted to go in his tent instead leaving us to the bothy all by ourselves. Bonus! Bothy's are for everyone to share and experience. Please respect other users. Very charming, cosy, amazing views. Would be a great place to paddle In to also and stay the night. Great place, highly recommend!
Excellent hidden gem at Loch Etive.
The bothy has 3 rooms: the left, middle and right rooms. The right and left rooms have fireplaces where you can light a fire, and the middle and left rooms have wooden bunk beds where you can roll out your own sleeping mat and sleeping bag and be elevated off the ground. The middle room's bunk beds could fit two people on each level, and the left room's bunk beds were a bit wider so you could squeeze three people on each level.
My group spent 2 nights here one sunny weekend in May, sharing the bothy with a family and a couple the first night and then having the bothy completely to ourselves the second night.
We were able to drive half way up the quarry road until we met a locked Forestry Commission gate. A local homeowner let us park at her house and we walked the rest of the way (around 30 mins). If parking by the quarry and walking in from there I imagine the walk would be around an hour.
The bothy is right next to a fast running stream where you can fill up water bottles, and it takes around 5 minutes to get down to the beach at the Loch (which was great for swimming and fishing).
Lovely setting for a bothy. Loch etive and the cracking views of Ben Cruachan and Ben starav. Well kept and equipped. 3 rooms and 2 with fireplaces. Stream with clear fast running water next to the bothy for cleaning and drinking.
Best bothy I've been to! 3 separate rooms, one is living room with fireplace, opposite is bedroom with fireplace and middle bedroom with BIG bunkbed. Would sleep 8 on bunkbeds if needed. Good wood and water supply nearby. Views of the loch below are stunning. Track is rough for bikes but doable from quarry.
One of my favourite bothys.
Stayed here a few times, can get a bit roudy when people are drinking.
Best time to stay is during the week.
Nice for a local walk also from Bonawe Quarry
Excellent bothy, a nice walk in from the quarry. Bothy itself was in great condition, there's a river for fresh water and plenty of wood around for the fire ????
A beautiful spot and a well-maintained bothy. Next to a burn for drinking water and with plenty of wood around for a fire. A great stop-off for a few days in this peaceful place; treat it well.
A better class of bothy in an idyllic spot. Balm for the soul. Best experienced in good weather, late on a summer evening or a crisp mid-autumn or late-spring morning.
