Welcoming, if a bit chilly in winter! Good acoustics for performance. Interesting history. Didn’t see any ghosts!!!
This church has Grade 1 Listed Building Status and with its previous burned and demolished Rectory has historically been the subject of intense interest and curiosity. Nestling amidst elegantly sculptured hedges and a typically peaceful English rural parish graveyard, an almost unnaturally quiet atmosphere seems to preempt a sense of unease as darkness descends. The allegedly often observed hovering and gliding ghost of a murdered French nun Marie Lairre purportedly roams the grounds seeking solace and release from her ancient earthly violent trauma. Not an ideal scenario in which to visit, but still however worth appreciating what is a fine example of medieval church architecture!
I know this church well. It must surely be one of the most beautiful village churches in England. Forget about ghostly manifestations; they are the exception, not the rule, and you’ll be wasting your time if you go looking for them. There certainly is a special atmosphere in the church, but there is nothing “spooky” about it: it is the atmosphere which one can feel in many churches where people have been worshipping God for hundreds of years.
Looked up the spooky info on this haunted church before i come. Very interesting to learn about it all before you come to make the best of it. Absolutely beautiful place, obviously well kept as the front garden part is very clean and clear
The infamous church.. made famous by suspected ghostly activities... sadly locked when I got there but still a great place to visit.. if there is nothing else to see here.. the old rectory ( demolished years ago,now houses a new dwelling) is just over the road. So if this place piques your ghost hunting tendencies.. well worth it.. apparently on Halloween the place is blocked off by police as people make a pest of themselves misbehaving.. shame.. it is still peoples homes after all..
Ed and Lorraine Warren came here in the 70’s and discovered a ghost nun. This nun went on to inspire “The nun” movie. Fascinating stuff.
Really nice church, quite creepy. Something strange always happens..
Haunting place.. if you like chilling, creepy old places then this is for you.
