Complete scam, avoid at all costs!!
Took my car here for an MOT and was told there was over £700 worth of repairs that needed to happen. I’ve never had such an expensive MOT quote before so took my car to my usual garage for a second opinion. Very happy I did as they found nothing wrong with car! They also said the work that supposedly ‘needed doing’ should have cost £350 not more than £700.
Will definitely not be coming back here, what a complete rip off.
My exhaust (very almost) fell off on the way to work. Initially, the garage seemed great in that they said bring it in that same day and they’ll have a look. But then suggested that it would cost over £200 to repair. I didn’t agree (I’m no expert but it just looked like the bracket holding the exhaust had broken – a quick fix) so hobbled back to my local garage in South Bristol. They charged £25 labour to re-attach it to the existing bracket. In summary, I’d suggest getting a second opinion on costs before going ahead with this garage having read other reviews.
AVOID!!! ~ Wasted time and money..
I'm owner of Classic Toyota MR2 1991 and it was time to look for MOT.
My current garage refused because this car was too low to get on their lift so I started to look for another Garage with better Lift.
Then i found Autotec around my area and noticed that photo with Caterham on proper Lift.
I called by closing time to get appointment but that guy said:
"Ok, tomorrow" - I was shocked that so fast but simply agreed. That was a BIG MISTAKE!!!
This guy (looks Hindu) didn't look on fact that this car is Uncommon and is over 30 years old!!
He found weird 4 Red Major Points and then refused to fix them!!! -_- When i asked where he found that "leak" he didn't even know where it was from...
Even if i will fix them, the Mot history will be very suspicious now.. -_-
PS: if you like this car - "click like" =D
STRONGLY DISSAPOINTED!
best to avoid.
took my car for an MOT they failed it and wanted 600 to fix. I was a mechanic in a previous life and knew there was nothing wrong with it, so took it to a different MOT station where it passed without advisories
Booked in for an MOT against my better judgement given the other reviews, but I needed it done quickly. The first slot was cancelled by them and they offered me a date on the Saturday. I delivered it to them at the start of the day as requested and didn't hear anything from them all day. I called them and their system said they were closed on Saturdays, so I wandered over to find them shut, thankfully with my car still outside. I needed the car from 5am on the Monday, and told them this when booking it in. They effectively attempted to steal the vehicle for the weekend, and left it outside and unlocked so anyone could pilfer it's contents. It is only by chance that I had the spare key that I could recover it to go to work.
Additionally it failed its MOT on the basis of a dirty headlight... Any other garage I know would've just wiped it clean and moved on.
It seems cheap and convenient, but just be wary of giving them your car if you need it back for anything within 48 hours...
*****Update in light of their reply for those considering future visits to this place.*****
The language used on the recorded line when you changed my booking instructed me to drop it from 9am Saturday not at 9am Saturday.
I had specified that I was away and ergo required the vehicle from the Monday, at which point waiting till 9am on that day to retrieve it would not be practical. The implication that I should have appeared to collect it without ever being contacted baffles me, every other gargage I've ever visited will call when work is completed or because they need authority to carry out further work.
Thankfully for me they had left the vehicle out on the street such that it was even possible for me to retrieve, although I observe that they clearly planned to leave it unlocked on the street over the weekend such that any contents in it could be freely accessed by anyone.
In regards to the "banging on the shutters" this too is a misrepresentation of what occurred. I returned to the garage later in the day as I was concerned I had not heard from them, when they knew I needed the vehicle back before Monday. I found the vehicle outside with the shutters down, and was planning to simply retrieve it with the spare key, when I saw that the unit was not completely locked up, with the padlocks on the door section on the shutters unlocked. At this point I politely knocked on the door section of the shutters in case anyone was still in and this could be resolved despite the failure of communication.
The further statement that I had no intention of making payment when I retrieved the vehicle is also untruthful, as I was never given and option to do so, and told immediately that I would have to come back Monday to have any interactions with the business at all. It was only when I specified that I wasn't here Monday that they reluctantly acquiesed to me removing the vehicle with the spare key.
With regards the failure, it is true that this old vehicle does have plastic headlights which fade under UV light over the summmer, however this can be rectified with the lightest of polishes, something which every previous garage it has been taken too in the last 4 years for MOT has generously done ex gratia as part of their standard customer service.
I will be asking a friend of mine to visit this business this week, where I will be paying reluctantly for the services rendered and then never darkening their door again, I hope this warning helps others avoid being inconvenienced by and lied to or about by this company again.
Absolute insane work ethic from the boys at auto ave I had oil leaking out of my diff causing me grief as I had to go away for the weekend the team had my car running back up in no time! Thanks will keep you in mind for future work.????????
Disappointing. Not respecting customer time. Booked appointment at 14.00 when arrived on the place was informed that garage can't take car. After speaking with different staff member did receive short answer "leave car it will be done maybe today or maybe tomorrow"
I do understand that service could be busy but please respect customer time as well as there is no problem of finding service in different garage.
AVOID! Misdiagnosed the issue and tried to overcharge me nearly £1000 to get my steering rack replaced when it was actually the pump that needed replacing. So glad I rang other garages to get a second opinion / quote. If you’re looking for a reliable Bristol garage - Roundway Garage is the one.
