Best KPortal Reviews
We had a difficult auto repair that we brought to Ames. They took the time and had the patience to sort out all the problems and hunt down all the parts needed, in addition to dealing with the warranty company. Highly recommend this shop for any repairs big or small.
I've been holding off over a year to write this review. I don't like giving a bad review unless it's warranted. This is what happened to me... I went in for a tune up on my 2003 Ford Escape. It's not an easy job to get to the bank three plugs and coils. You have to take the whole intake off to get to them. About a $400 job alone. In doing the tune-up, they found that the #2 coil was showing intermittent failure. When came to pick up the vehicle, they said they moved it to the #1 cylinder so if it does fail, they would know for sure. Why didn't they tell me before putting the intake back in? I would have replaced all three hard to get to coils. OR, just move the suspect bad coil to the front, so I can be replaced without spending $400+ to get to it! Now the coil has failed and it's a bigger expense than it needed to be, if they had just stopped to think. I actually believe they left it hoping I would come back and drop another $400!
Knowledgeable staff who go out of their way to get your car fixed at a fair price. They keep you informed about the work that needs done, and what the cost will be, before they do the work. I will definitely go back, and recommend them highly!
Ames automotive is amazing. I have been going to his shop since 2016 and he is always willing to help. He is very reasonable on pricing and will recommend other places if he is not able to fix it. He has worked on three different vehicles doing brakes to replacing a transmission. He is the best in town
What a waste of time!! They could not locate parts to repair my truck. I located and picked up parts as needed returned with them the next day. Placed two parts in the mechanics hands and then he proceeded tearing something else completely not related to the items I provided! Couldn’t quite get it right returned that night for some adjustments from the issues created. They were not able resolve the actual problem with the parts I provided.
I sent them a 1997 Chevy Silverado the 4x4 was not working and did have all new actuators/Transfer case motor. They could not figure it out and charged me 226.00 which wasn't bad. They did install the front diff actuator, However they couldn't figure it out and sent it back to me. I figured it out as one of the wires on the transfer case actuator had been pulled and reversed into the plug. I think they could've figured this out easily but they gave up.
I took my car there because it kept dying while it was running. They had it for a week, changed and cleaned some parts, but still couldn't get it to run properly. Eventually they told me they thought it was a short in the fuel pump wiring, but that they couldn't fix it and I would probably have to take it to a dealer to get it fixed. I then took it to the place I bought it from (not a dealer) and they replaced the ignition box and had it running.
I will say the staff at Ames was friendly and we're very fair on the pricing, but I doubt I'll go back there.
One of the most honest , informative, and helpful automotive repair shops in town! Kent does an exceptional job at troubleshooting your problem and then making the appropiate repairs. He does not persuade you to make repairs that are unnessecary. Honest, reliable and friendly!!!
