We were a family party of 14 staying here for a birthday celebration.Alcombe House as it is now known is not a hotel but a great rental property. We were renting for 4 nights. The rooms were great and spacious with two twin room t the top and 6 double rooms over the other two floors. All rooms were on suite. The first floor bathrooms with showers were very good, the other rooms had electric showers but look carefully for the switches of some were hard to find. ||The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need along with the crockery and utensils. Dining room was great for our party and the living area was very spacious with WiFi and television. There is also a games room in the basement with a combination table of pool and paddle hockey.||The only draw back was the lack of a garden to have a bbq so we had it in the car parking area. The house is Situated on the main road but it’s not noisy and is very easy to find along with various takeaways and small shops. A 10 minute walk away is a large Tesco and a Morrisons.
This place is situated in Minehead and has a number of bedrooms. We visited as a large group. The house itself is spacious and well built. It has some really strong points to it. The kitchen is well equipped with utensils, pots pans cutlery etc. The dining area is also lovely with two dining tables and two high chairs. The lounge area was well presented with seating and a tv which had Netflix and other apps installed. The view from some of the upper floors was stunning. The house is close to a few main shops such as Tesco, Lidl which was handy when we needed anything and it was also five minutes from the beachfront and pier. Irons are provided but not in every room. There is ample parking for around 6/7 cars in the drive. However, we did have some issues when we stayed. As there is a tank of water which fills up this had an overflow pipe with was pouring out onto the roof outside the bedroom windows. This caused so much noise on a night which made it difficult to sleep if your bedroom was unlucky enough to be next to the roof the water was pouring on to. A couple of the carpets also had damp stains on them which indicated that water had been coming through the ceiling. We did call the owner to come and sort the issue out (the overflow pipe) and to be fair he did come and have a look around but had no other solution but to completely switch the water off. Obviously this would mean we would not be able to use the water or flush the toilets and so was not an ideal solution. The beds are double in most rooms and seem to be tiny which meant if there were two adults in them they would not be able to sleep comfortably. The infant cots provided also had mattresses in them that were too big for them and this meant the cover provided did not fit them either. No extra toiletries are provided (apart from a toilet roll for each bathroom) so be sure to bring your own extras. All in all an okay stay but I probably wouldn’t return to this specific hotel/house.
We were late arriving but as I had called ahead this seemed not to be a problem. We arrived on our Harley Davidson which did not seem a problem as some places frown upon such things. We were met with a very friendly and warm response which made us feel very welcome. Lovely room. Lovely place to stay. The bed was amazing and the whole place was spotless. Will stay again. Many thanks. Oh love the pond.
From the outside the Alcombe House Hotel is impressive to say the least and certainly not be disappointed as you step through the front door with the grand staircase. Our room was impeccably clean and comfortable with a good sized bathroom. Because of COVID-19 no breakfast was available although they had enough room between the dining room and lounge felt to make it work “|Pity because I had stayed before on business and the standard of breakfast was excellent. If I had one criticism it would be the welcome from the owner , well there wasn’t one and frankly trying to get a conversation was like pulling teeth , almost as though he couldn’t wait to get us out of the way unfortunately. |Around the corner was a delightful pub The Britannia well worth a visit.
Very clean, pretty rooms. Beds were so comfortable - extremely nice touches and details in the room - eg fluffy towels, fave cloths and beautiful hand wash and cream. Thank you for a lovely stay. We only stayed one night and would definitely recommend this to others and would stay again
Host Frank was very welcoming and accommodating. Room was very clean with a lovely view looking at the moors. Frank was helpful with letting us borrow some dishes and spoons for our breakfast. This Hotel is a lovely base for you to go on adventures into Minehead Dunster and Watchet. Lynford is another beautiful place to go out and visit.
Spent one night here for a family party. Arrived about 3ish to a very grumpy welcome. My mum can’t see that well and as we had 3 rooms we needed to fill a slip in each which I was going to do for my mum Snapped that we needed to complete one per room when mum started to get flustered. Was also barked at that we need to pay upfront which was not an issue but did expect a warm welcome. This unwarm welcome followed us into the bedrooms. Heating had been left off and storage heaters took ages to warm up. Sons room at top right of hotel wouldn’t switch on but didn’t want me to complain as the welcome we had. The rooms are very clean and the house is beautiful so no qualms there at all just a bit bah humbug on arrival. Had a great night with family but left hotel at 9 and won’t be returning there. Some lovely hotels and b and bs in Minehead to choose from. Not this one
Beautiful place. Very clean. Near local pub and around 20 minutes to the front. Hotelier is friendly and polite. Bed was firm but super comfortable. TV in our room was very small but bathroom was immaculate and lovely. Highly recommended.
