Best KPortal Reviews
Please avoid at all costs. The place is as manky as the two guys that run the shop. Horrible atmosphere with no personality between them. Hygiene is clearly not a priority as the two guys were handling food without gloves and not following simple basic hygiene measures. Ordered pizza crunch, what I got was battered pizza base minus any toppings must have been the cheese and tomatoes day off. Ordered a chicken nuggets and chips which im pretty sure was still clucking on the way back to the ferry terminal. Then we come to the fish and chips which would surely be a safe bet since I could literally touch the water from the chip shops front door, well that was hands down the worst I've ever had or seen. Im pretty sure the poor fish which clearly wasn't haddock or cod or even anywhere near fresh had been drowned alive in the stinking rancid greasy frying oil which everything stunk of. Horrendous experience and im pretty sure from the 2 mouthfuls I endured before it got binned that I will be unfortunately experiencing the scoots later on tonite. If any body is looking for a real life bush tucker trial then this is the place to go.
The photos speak for themselves. Rank ???? Oil/dripping has not been changed for ages, tastes horrible and its dirty. Staff use there hands for everything, no tongs...king ribs are part fried then dunked in to finish off, fish clearly isn't fresh and the presentation is just as bad as the taste!!
Was hoping to get some decent fish and chips while on one of the Scottish islands but it was disappointing. The fish was simply listed as 'fish'. I know my fish and I am pretty certain the fish used here was basa. That's an inexpensive mass-farmed river fish from southern Vietnam. Such a shame when you're so close to the sea and I'll bet there's cod, haddock or pollock out there or further up the coast. Batter was quite oily and overdone. Chips were OK, bit soggy. I liked the mushy peas. Staff not particularly friendly. In a bigger town with some competition a chippy of this level of quality would have gone out of business long ago.
Well we’re to start. Me and my wife Having now already eaten a take away from here are going to give a honest review on this.
I asked for Fish chips peas and gravey in a tray and the miserable guy said it has to be in cartons as it would spill all over. So I agreed. The tray was about 6” x 4” so had to snap the fish to fit it in. However there was loads of big trays but hey ho. Asked for a fork to eat the food with. You could only get super small wooden forks. One pea at a time. The fish wasn’t to bad and the rest of it wasn’t as bad as all the other reviews. Just badly presented and the guys in there looked dirty and just so miserable. I think the hygiene people should drop in and give this chippy some sort of rating. Then you could make your mind up before you order.
My advise tread with caution
Visited at the weekend with my partner. Asked for haddock supper. I have no idea what fish this was but it certainly wasn't haddock! It was so greasy, the batter was so chewy and the "fish" didn't have the texture of haddock and had absolutely no taste. The chips were ok but the amount you get is nowhere near worth the money. I would avoid.
Fish nae bad but, but let down by limp soggy batter, and even more so by unpleasant cheesy tasting chips ( rancid fat ? ) . Nothing wrong with old-skool but the place feels tired. i think the competition up the other end isn't great either and therefore isn't much of a threat to them they can both just cruise along doing their mediocre thing .. .. .
Very poor fish n chips. The fish was grey and tasteless.
Food here is appalling! £7.50 for a fish supper that didn't taste good at all. Plus had bones in it. Sausage is a normal sized link fried in batter. Black pudding was rock hard. No gloves worn by any of the 2 guys serving the food. Everything is picked up by their bare hands. Should have walked out then! It is that bad even the seagulls refused to eat it when we gave them it! Avoid!!
