Short and easy half mile walk to the spring. You cannot swim across the spring but there are other ways to get to the ruins, either up the cliff, crossing the river at another point, or floating/kayaking to it. Unfortunately we were unprepared this time but we will definitely be back! Hopefully with less people- went on Sunday and expected a LOT but not quite so many. No service (at&t & verizon) in the area and a gravel road to get there, with a few bumps but very navigable. No 4WD required
The spring is an amazing historical place to visit. And there is a chance you will see trail riders on horses as there is an equestrian trail that follows the river. I enjoy wading and fishing this stretch of the river. You will see kayaks pass by as well. There is also a good chance of seeing different species of wildlife. It is an easy half mile hike from the parking lot to the spring.
Well worth the stop, either by hike or by water. There sure is something about these ozark mountains that makes them home.
1 mile round trip hike easily accomplished in 30 minutes!! Well worth the walk and drive!!! Path is paved with gravel and is pretty flat. Please do not disturb the spring.
The walk from the parking lot was 1/2 mile. It was a very even walk and not very difficult. When we got to the area it was so beautiful to sit and watch the water coming from under the rocks. We would have loved to have gotten to the other side. However I learned afterwards it is a hike to get there. We weren't dressed for hiking. Still 2 thumbs up on how much we loved the view.
Beautiful underground spring adding to the Current river.
This was a fairly easy half-mile hike out to beautiful Welch Spring and its old ruin of a tuberculosis hospital. If you want to get over to the hospital be prepared for a bit of a climb up the cliff on your right.
Very short walking path. Good for kids. Can't get to abandoned hospital from oath but you can see it.
