This rating is really more for the area than the bridge itself. If it wasn't so badly graffitied and so many bottles smashed, it could get a 5. But the spot is great for a stop and a picnic if you don't mind all the spray paint cock and balls.
Beautiful place centered around a once-useful covered bridge, which has fallen into a state of dilapidation. Rumors and headlines have indicated for years that this bridge is being renovated, but so far nothing has been started. Shame on the local county/state for not taking better care of this historic landmark, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
It's a shame that another covered bridge is in need of repair and closed even to foot traffic. Seems as a lot of development in the area, so just maybe they will restore it.
I grew up here in Waterford for 41 years. They are saying they're going to fix it. Like anything else it won't be the same. But anticipating being able to travel that way to town again.
So much graffiti.
Pretty worn down.
Wish someone would restore it and make it usable again.
This bridge is closed to traffic and hasn't been maintained. It's interesting to see the two wooden tracks going across it.
Being one of PAs oldest remaining covered bridges, this place is of historical significance. Though it's fallen into near dis-repair, it's remains a popular spot.
But, for many, this bridge is more than just a historical landmark. For many, it stands for the Golden days of our childhood. A place to hang out, meet new people, make friends. A spot to tell scary stories, let your eyes play at the shadows to create monsters, stories you'd tell to your friends and your family. It's graffiti laced walls and support beams are a time capsul of teenage angst and emotion etched into the bridge for all to see, if you can stand the vulgarity. It remains a testament to the human desire to be heard, even if you're screaming into the void at the time, some stranger may yet hear your words or read your thoughts, or know you live. Even if sometimes those "words" are less than mature.
Years and years pass and local government state they have "ear-marked" funding for this bridge to revitalize it, yet every year passes with another promise unfulfilled. I can only hope the locals do all they can to keep the bridge standing, even if it never becomes operational, because for youth of the surrounding areas, this bridge is more than just a potential throughway.
The bridge is currently closed to traffic as someone took a high profile and crashed into it trying to drive through it. It is still open to foot traffic and photos. The township needs to trim some trees and brush as it is growing up. They should treasure and nurture their heritage.
