Absolutely one of the best soul food restaurants I’ve visited in Hyde Park Chicago. The food is absolutely amazingly delicious! There were many options to choose from and we were very pleased with the way the food was prepared and came out hot. The drinks were cute, not much alcohol but still delicious. The ambience was amazing, open and refreshing. The music was great in the background. And most importantly, this a Black Owned restaurant yet heavily diverse. We will be back for more!
What an incredible experience from start to finish! The restaurant itself is beautiful and the service is absolutely top notch. The staff are kind, attentive, and offered great recommendations.
We got the gumbo to start - I admit it’s the first time I had gumbo so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it was unbelievably flavorful and I’d definitely get it again. The short rib was so tender and delicious, and the mac and cheese and cornbread were the best choices in side dish. In particular, the corn bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and just perfect when the butter melted through it.
Overall, I can’t say enough good things about this place and would highly recommend it to anyone!
We were speechless to say the least while we were partaking in delightful decadence. My table started off with the fried green tomatoes, biscuits, cornbread and gumbo. When I say good it was so good. The cornbread was delicious and the biscuits Oh my one of the best I have tasted and I normally don’t care to much for biscuits. Then for my entree I had the mouthwatering, tender and extremely flavorful short rib over creamed spinach & potato with a side of Mac n’ cheese which I had to take home for ordering more than ai could handle. The table shared the collard greens made with turkey which also exceeded my expectations. We were so satisfied after the starters that we could only eat a few bites of our main course. I had dinner for 2 days from my short rib entree and the food tasted just as good. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the customer service from the front desk to the waiter. Looking forward to dining at your establishment again soon.
Highly recommend. Make sure you make a reservation. Several people tried to do a walk in & they were booked even at the bar.
I have been committed to try southern food!! This is definitely the place to go. I think I am a big fan of this restaurant now. Love the decor and the beautiful plates they have. One of our favorite is the chicken liver. Perfect combination of the chicken liver sauce, bread and some pomegranate!! Large portions may come a little late, so make sure order those in the first place.
Phenomenal experience! We were not disappointed. Service , food , drinks, were all exceptional. The server took time in helping us select our drinks and dinner , even though the establishment was a full capacity. He was not rushed. Started with gumbo and fried green tomatoes followed by Braised short ribs , blackened catfish, collard greens with smoked turkey ???? red velvet cake and peach cobbler. Flavors on all dishes were jaw dropping fantastic- fresh quality ingredients. Details in presentation of each dish was outstanding. Just a great vibe !
Love, Love!!!.. this place. Now being on a diet I had to think about my calorie intake so I ordered the Kale salad and fried green tomatoes as my main course. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE KALE SALAD. Omg, it was amazing. The Italian dressing had a little spice but the candied pecans evened it out. The fried green tomatoes paired perfectly with the shrimp topping. I also had the peach tree fizz and it will sneak up on you but it's worth every drop. I sampled a little corner of the biscuits and its just like grandma's homemade biscuits back in the day. I highly recommend you reserve a table ahead of time as the place is very busy and wait time can be hours even for the bar section. Enjoy!!
My experience dining at Virtue was superb in every way! The short ribs, collard greens, cornbread, and even the carrots that came atop the catfish were splendid! The banana pudding was by far the best I’ve tasted… ever! Matthew was our server and he provided excellent service and provided sound recommendations. I will be back for sure. Thank you for an amazing dining experience. It made my foodie heart glad. ????
Thank you Madeline! One of the best restaurants in Chicago, this place is oozing with talented chefs. We had the fried green tomatoes *chef’s kiss* then moved on to mac and cheese, blackened catfish, cornbread and salmon. Everything was very special. Protip don’t forget the banana pudding!
