The Inn is very old and tired - needing serious renovation. But it's great value for money. I paid £35 for a single room - 1 night.
It does "what it says on the tin" - Bed and breakfast. The bed was clean, soft but comfortable, the 6-item breakfast (plus juice, toast and coffee or tea) - was hearty. Small rooms - but basically clean and functional enough for a 1-night stay. Small unisex toilet with a faulty lock! The TV in my room was probably bought around 1980 or 1990 at the latest - I couldn't find a way to get it to work properly. No lift. Central location - but up a fairly steep hill! - on Alston's main thoroughfare, near the market cross and Co-op. It's not luxury - check the price - a lot of other hotels and inns nearby are considerably pricier!
Fantastic and very accommodating host, excellent breakfast, central, great value for money, highly recommend!
Best hotel accommodation we had on our Pennine Way walk. Room clean and heated with lovely view out over this very interesting, old, partially restored town. Breakfast full english style. Functioning wifi and across street from PO and Co-op. This is a character hotel with a great manager committed to her guests.
The hotel is old and very dated - carpets were very worn, 1980's vintage TV in my small single room (that I couldn't get to work properly!), altogether it lacked any charm or appeal.|But the prices were very good value for a one-night stay - £35 for Bed and Breakfast.|It did "what it says on the tin" - providing a clean soft (but comfortable) bed and a 6-item breakfast with juice, coffee plus toast and jam.|My room wasn't en-suite - as the price suggests! A unisex small cubicle toilet is upstairs with a faulty lock - a nuisance. The shower worked - piping hot water. It was OK for one night, but I wouldn't stay for longer unless you are on a tight budget. Some other places nearby are much more expensive.
Great stay at the Victoria hotel. This hotel is definitely on the old and tired side but it's very reasonably priced and the owner friendly and hospitable. We arrived early on bicycles on a cold we day. The room was soon warmed up. Great breakfast. I'd definitely recommend a stay in this charactful place!
I stayed at the Victoria Inn for two nights. A lovely genuine welcome from the owner, Tiam. My room was warm, bed comfortable, and en-suite clean with very hot water. Good supply of tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast was great. No evening meal available but that was probably because my visit was mid week in the low season. There are other places to eat nearby. The hotel is traditional, and great value for money.
£47 for a private room, absolute luxury after 6 days of wildcamping the Pennine Way. Host was lovely and happily sorted me a big vegan breakfast. Highly recommend for an easy/rest day on the PW.
I stayed one night while walking the Pennine Way. The hotel is no frills budget in a largely unmodernised pub, so not for you if you're looking for luxuries, but perfect for walkers and cyclists passing through. The room was warm and clean, the shower hot and the bed comfortable. TV in room, though I didn't use it. Good breakfast. The host (Tian?) was very friendly and helpful.
