Down home country cooked soul food. Friendly small town atmosphere. You can either order cooked to order options such as hotdog, cheeseburger, seafood combination plate, hot hamburger plate or select from around 2-3 precooked options from the cafeteria line such as baked chicken, lasagna, hamburger steak, fried chicken, baked spaghetti.
Wanting dinner. Not sure where. Googled restaurants in Vanceboro. Discovered Vera's Diner. Perused the menu and hit the road.
You'll miss it, if you don't take your time to look for it. Nondescript building...belies the delicious bounty awaiting your taste buds.
I ordered the SMALL platter of:
Oysters, scallops, and shrimp...
fried...I usually get my seafood pan seared or steamed. The coating was more of a dusting of light cornmeal. Everything was cooked perfectly. The oysters exploded with estuary sweet brine flavor; the scallops were nearly the size of a 50¢ piece...sweet and tender; and the shrimp, larger than Calabash, but smaller than cocktail, sweet and delicious; AND LOCAL!
Had a salad & Cole slaw as sides. So much of my sea delicacies were left over, I had seconds the next day.

Solid, authentic southern cooking. Definitely worth a quick stop. I had the beef tips with candied yams and green beans with sweet tea. Loved it! Affordable, generous portions. A true gem in Vanceboro.
Good food and friendly environment.. The staff treats you like family. And if unhappy with anything just let them know and they will do there best to make you happy

We have traveled through Vanceboro lots of times and never stopped. This time we left home with the intention of stopping at Vera's diner and glad we did. The breakfast was very good and the wife even got a cheesebiscuit that she liked alot. The atmosphere was very laid back as it should be in a country town. I highly recommend this place for any meal. Vera's even serves seafood which we will come back and try. The hostesses were very courteous.
As usual the staff were very friendly and helpful. As a cook myself I can appreciate all that's done in order to make visits rewarding as well as enjoyable. My hat off to Vera's.
Passed this place on the way to the beach and back. Always talked about stopping. Had lunch here on a rainy Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Be careful... once you stop in, this place will become a regular destination. Everything was incredible!!!
