The perfect Sunday brunch spot! The Salmon Eggs Benedict, Breakfast Sammie, and Lemon Blueberry Pancakes were all so good in their own ways. We sat outside on the patio which was lovely, but the inside of the restaurant is homey, bright, and eclectically decorated, also. Our server, Daniel, was warm and helpful. We will definitely be back again!
One bad apple ruins the brunch. My family had an 11:15 brunch reservation for three at Uncommon Ground today. We arrived on time and upon checking in with the host, we were told there were no more tables outside, and we would need to be seated inside. No big deal, we hadn't requested an outdoor table in advance so I thought his framing of the situation was a bit odd. It certainly didn't feel very welcoming. The host proceeded to walk our party of three to our table, which was a two-top. My wife and I both immediately pointed out that we had a reservation for three, and there were three people in our party including our nearly four year old son. The host pushed back, declaring that we were only a party of two - I can only assume he felt that our son didn't count as a person. I explained that our son would also be eating with us and that a two-top simply wouldn't have enough room for meals & drinks for three. Additionally, there were multiple open four tops available just within the room in which he was seating us. After some back and forth the host finally relented and stated "take whatever table you want" and stormed off. We picked one of the open four tops and sat down, but our entire Mother's Day brunch was marred by the initial seating experience. Every time the host walked by and made eye contact I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. Ironically the next party the host sat at the other open four top in our room was also a party of three (all three members of the party were adults). The food and rest of the service was fine, but the initial experience left such a poor taste in my mouth it was impossible to enjoy any of it. We have been patrons of Uncommon Ground for over a decade (my wife and I had our second date there), but after today I'm sad to say I don't think we will return.
I always love supporting this local farm-to-table restaurant. The outdoor seating is bordered by what looks to be edible vegetation. The inside is covered with beautiful art. Even with an afternoon Cubs game we were able to be seated without issue.
We enjoyed the Chop Salad and the Greens and Grains salad. They are sizeable portions. I also enjoyed a mocha BOWL (think mocha served like soup covered in whipped cream)!!)
The gruyere dip was really good. The burger was decent; I wouldn't order again. Many places with a much better burger. The chicken sandwich was good. The Mac and cheese was light and good. Cocktails were pretty good. Service was friendly and prompt. I would go back to try dinner and the beer next time.
Uncommon Ground (the Central Perk of Chicago??) has good food and great service, but I wasn't down with the horrible 80's music and vibe (Michael Jackson-- three freaking songs, no less-- and "The Boss" can die horrible musical deaths for all I care).
Food: vegan hash and the chilaquiles were both tasty and with a kick to them.
Coffee was decent as well.
The seats were uncomfortable though.
Made a reservation, sat down to dinner, and they didn't have live music, not a big deal, but wasn't serving any entrees, which is why we came. Then they were out of the cauliflower starter, sweet potato fries, and tomato soup, which we tried to order, so who knows what else. We went to the bathroom while waiting, and I bet the liquor store bathroom next door was cleaner. It was absolutely disgusting. We had ordered the calamari starter, and we waited an hour for it. It cost $21 for a couple little pieces of calamari on top of a bed of greens that would give you food poisoning. I've never walked out of a restaurant, but we paid for a decent beer and a very disappointing starter and left. It sounded like such a cool place. Disappointing on literally every level.
Pretty solid place for brunch. We had reservations for a party of 10. Service was fine and friendly. They have decent variety of brunch options and it is vegan and vegetarian friendly versions of many dishes.
I tried the carnitas benedict and eggs were nice soft poached. I liked they offer an option to have a side salad on many of the dishes. Many people ordered the chilaquiles. The Brussels sprouts were so awesome to share...I would order this again. They also have enticing list of cocktails and mocktails, which was very nice.
It's quite accessible by bus or the red line.
I was here earlier this week and had an incredible dinner. This spot is nestled into Wrigleyville, and was a pleasant contrast to many nearby spots that provide a lot of pub grub and barbecue. All of our food was absolutely wonderful and the ambience was perfect for the chilly winter night. The tempura fish tacos were unbelievably good and tastes so very fresh. My family members with me also had a great meal experience, they tried the meatloaf, tomato soup/grilled cheese, and vegetarian chili. YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO TRY THE SWEET POTATO FRIES WITH THE WARM GOAT CHEESE TO DIP THEM IN!!! We had a great time here and will certainly be back
