Best KPortal Reviews
The catfish at this place is excellent, its flaky and the batter is just a light cornmeal coating. Dip into that hot sauce for heat and zing.
Their wings are also very good. The batter is crispy and crunchy, kerping the meat moist and hot. Again, dip it in that hot sauce.
I was disappinted with the fried okra. The batter was too dense and not able to taste the actual okra. Just tasted like breading. A lighter tempura-like batter and okra stalks (instead of coins) would be a vast improvement.
Apparently, Harold's Chicken has a Westside rivalry with Uncle Remus, so being a South-Sider, I had to check it out.
First time ordering takeout orders. Placed an order online and got a text when my order was ready. I ordered two tray meals (dark meat only), two orders of French fries, 6 rolls (split in 3's on the trays), two large coleslaws, and two slices of chocolate cake. The chicken was good and fried fresh, same for the French fries. Really liked the sides. It was a bit pricey for only two people, but we did enjoy the food and had leftovers. Customer service was nothing special, but I would order this once in a while and would recommend trying it out to others.
As far as the rivalry goes, I think both chicken places are good, but Harold's Chicken is hard to beat. ????????????????
So I visited this location on Tuesday evening to check it out. I'm from the West side and wanted to see if it taste the same. We ordered a G-pan only to find out it's just chicken. I was so disappointed ???? no fries or rolls just chicken ????. I called to see what was in a G pan in case it was a mistake. The young lady said their G pan is just chicken only. Never again I was totally disappointed ???? by this & the amount you pay to find out it's chicken only. This is a horrible pick on the menu. The chicken was good but to spend all that money for just chicken is ridiculous. I could of ordered a 4 piece or 6 piece. Not a pleasant visit.????
I had the 4 piece mixed & cooked hard in which was good. I'm not from this area & wanted to check it out to see if it was the same. The sauce was delicious and taste the same as the ones on the West side and suburbs. I definitely would suggest putting a roll with your orders like the others do.
We decided to try out this place on a whim, based on a recommendation, and ended up getting the 6-piece wings with coleslaw. They were delightfully spicy! It was a perfect choice for a Saturday afternoon, and the food was absolutely delicious. If you're a fan of wings, this place is definitely worth a try!
Uncle Remus definitely cooks their chicken right. It is lightly seasoned, breaded to perfection, and topped off with their amazing honey bbq sauce. On the other hand, customer service is beyond poor. They mix up orders and accidentally give orders to the wrong consumer. My colleague and I waited for an hour as we inquired about our order. We discovered the orders were generated, packed, and given to someone else. We only got an hour for lunch, and it was spent waiting.
Uncle Remus on a good day beats Harold’s. The turkey wings are massive, coating is crispy with a great mild sauce filling in the crevices. Fries and okra are great too. Note to the (amazing) chefs - the breasts can easily be overdone and get dry
Taste are subjective I know this but good is good and bad is bad and my product wasn't good. This is not nothing like the out west locations period and at least on this day my chicken was hard dry no flavor and the sauce underwhelmed me. Anybody who grew up on the real uncle remus would agree. Whoever cooked the chicken Saturday afternoon on may 11th needs to be fired. Or maybe they just gave me the wings that fell out the trap and was in the grease underneath for too long because that's what it tasted like.
