My coworker and I stopped by last Thursday for a quick bite and some drinks. I ordered the smoked buffalo chicken dip, which was fairly tasty but a smidge too spicy for my liking. The tortilla chips were fresh and seasoned well. My coworker ordered the Cuban sandwich with collard greens and other than his bread being extremely over cooked, he said the sandwich was good. The greens were definitely one of his favorites. We also ordered a margarita flight, which gets an A+ off the presentation alone. We also came on R and B night (I assume because that’s what the DJ was playing) and thoroughly enjoyed the vibes. All and all, I’d be willing to come back again.
Others may have a better time than I did. It might be my fault that I didn't have a great experience.
It's a BBQ joint. Shoulda gone with trying some Pittsburgh 'que. But no. I was told it was wing night and I mistakenly went with that and placed my order at the bar.
I thought I would eat at the bar because I was alone, but was offered a table and told a server would be right over to get my drink order.
Server never showed and after 5 minutes the bartender came round to take my drink order. Sigh.
Wings finally came out. Now I know everyone has their own taste so I can't expect everyone to like what I like. When it comes to wings, I like them dry rubbed, not wet and gooey. For me, it's about the flavor of the meat, not a sauce. Well, these were DRY. Super dry. And salty. Hardly any flavor beyond the saltiness. I had ordered a mix of Cajun and BBQ dusted, but honestly couldn't tell the difference between them.
I also ordered a side of coleslaw. It was bland. Nuff said about that.
After the server brought out the wings,I never saw her again. Not to even see if I wanted another beer.
At least there was a lively vibe in the joint.
Wish you a better experience than the one I had.
My dad and I are from Australia and are in Pittsburgh on business. We popped in to watch the Steelers game having been in there a couple of nights before for some ribs (which were delicious, by the way). We were served by Nick, who was extremely polite, chatty and made us feel right at home. We settled our bill, but then ordered a couple more drinks and went to settle them up too. To our astonishment, we were told they were on the house and to have a great rest of our trip. Wonderful service, they certainly didn't have to do that, but that gesture left a phenomenal impression on us and we will recommend your establishment to anyone. Great venue, great people, great city.
Bartender there was very courteous and very informative. We were undecided on what to get and he made suggestions that in the end made this a super fantastic night. Been in Pittsburgh for three days coming out of Ohio and if it wasn’t for this place I would’ve never wanted to come to the city again. But the food and the service was out of this world which made my stay in Pittsburgh one of the best I’ve ever had. Thank you very much the food was fantastic.
Stopped to honor the memory of my cousin who used to be the floor manager and worked the door, he passed away last year. They have his picture by the front door where he used to sit ???? Never ate here before and I am so glad we stopped! They just unveiled a new menu a few weeks ago and OH. MY. GOSH. The Southern Belle chicken sandwich is hands down the BEST chicken sandwich I’ve ever had in my entire life. And that’s not hyperbole! The flavor was to die for. Mac and cheese was ???????????? My girlfriend got the pulled pork and it was also just as amazing! Great atmosphere and great wait staff! Can not wait to come back!
The food and drinks were really good. We went there for brunch and had the big A bloody Mary (it's huge and hard to eat but very awesome), chicken and waffles, and the American breakfast. They have a nice bar and a bunch of tv screens that had college basketball and football on. Everything was good but the service was really slow at times, which is okay because we weren't in a hurry but really the only point of complaint. I would go back there.
I used to love Twelve. I frequented there every spring/summer for years. They always had a great mix when it came to the population, good music, and good food. I had always heard of the bouncer being “choosy” on who he lets in due to their dress code but I have never witnessed it personally. However, on Sunday April 7th, I was unfortunate enough to witness the racial disparities of East Carson Street. The bouncer would not let me in. His exact words were “you can’t get in with that thing on your head”. When attempting to plead my case, he was dismissive and rude.
In the midst of me standing there, I witnessed him let multiple males inside carrying liquor from another establishment (a clear safety hazard). I also witnessed him “pat down” some males for weapons and not others (another clear safety hazard). You would think that Twelve would do better because most of their patrons are African American. Sometimes, the things that we wear aren’t understood or respected by other races, which is why I attempted to plead my case but at that point, I was talking to a brick wall.
I’m sure that this review will be met with a dismissive response about how their “VIP’s” get different treatment and how the dress code doesn’t apply to the VIP’s. However, I just want to let it be known to travelers and newer people in the Pittsburgh area that you have to look a certain way when going to Twelve on Carson.
Below are pictures of my full outfit for reference.
The food was amazing! The ribs and brisket were extremely tender, and all the sides were amazing. I was surprised by how much 1/2 rack of ribs was! Very meaty, and definitely enough for a meal! We also got the smoked chicken nachos which were fully loaded! The service was good, and overall this was a good dining experience!
