Friendly bar staff, good pint and awesome open log fire ,even your dog can have a drink.

Called in on our way to a holiday let, very friendly. It was lovely to speak to local people without having music blaring. We returned and enjoyed a few more drinks. Would love to stay more local so we could use it again.

Kia ora! Popped in for a pint on a quiet Sunday evening whilst staying in town. Welcoming barmaid at this locals' wet pub. Cosy and friendly. Log fire. Decent pint as you would expect. Soon became clear to our ear that the friendly landlord propping up our side of the bar is a Kiwi. Been here since 1974 apparently.????????????????????????

myself and a couple of work mates fancied a few drinks end of week, but i have to say, we had one drink and left, never been made to feel so un easy, the barmaid is properly the rudest arrogant woman i have ever meet,you pull pints not security for the prime minister, she needs to get a personality transplant seriously because its a horrible atmosphere. the failure of a pub is seeing the owners half cut propping up the bar, this is the what you see here, i cant stand too faced people and i could hear all three laughing and taking the mick out of customers and belittling them, worst pub in england.....

Awful customer care, me and 2 friends came into the pub, all workers were staring at us as soon as we walked in, we went to go out the back for a smoke, and was talking about what we will have when we go back in drink wise, we decided, then next minute we know, a guy in a van turns up next to us (landlord) and shouted if you're not buying a drink then you can bugger off! I said we are going to order a drink when we go in, and he said that's not how it works around here! He drove off and I said I can't believe that, all we was doing was having a smoke, not very nice service, and then a woman was also outside smoking (worker) and said actually he's not being unreasonable, he's the landlord, I said aren't you allowed to come out for a smoke & then have a drink, all the other pubs let us, because they seem friendly and nice, she said well we are the best pub in town, but you're not doing that! Very rude & unreasonable staff! I've also had some other people complain about there lack of customer care! Disgusted & Appaulled by the way we was treated, because we were 18-19 year olds, they didn't want us there the minute we walked in. We decided to leave instead after being treated badly, else we would've gone back in and ordered our drinks, they have lost the sales for that night from us, and many customers as I will be telling everyone about this, already have told some and they said they certainly won't be going there again. Another problem we all said about to each other was the fact that the second we walked in we could smell dog urine. Awful in every way possible.

Made to feel very welcome.|Immediately got involved with the locals who asked where I was from and Kathy behind the bar was very welcoming and had some good local knowledge of places to eat etc.|Great authentic pub with great local people!||Will definitely come back again!

Very nice place....unfortunately I was on soft drinks but my work colleagues were having a great time with the choice of drinks and the pool table.
