I kept seeing posts on Facebbok of the food at The Wooden Keg. My husband and I wanted to give it a try for a while and finally had the opportunity to stop by. The food portions were large and also tasted great. We will be back to try more items on the menu. The crab dip was good but a little lacking on the crab. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $1.50 and get those pita points. We wanted to try a bunch of stuff, so we also took a lot home.
Awesome place , we love visiting historic buildings like this, especially when they are restaurants. We made reservations a few days ahead of time to make sure we had seating in the tunnel room. When we arrived we were told to sit wherever we like . It took a little bit for us to find our way to the stairs to the tunnel room. The ambiance of the room was very nice , we loved how the stone walls were exposed near the tunnel. We ordered the Irish Egg Rolls they were very good even though they were a little greasy . My wife ordered the Fisherman's Pie, which was very good as well. I had the Guinness Chicken, the chicken was very tender, and the Guinness glaze paired perfectly with the chicken . We will definitely be returning . We'll worth the 1hr and half drive .
My girlfriend and I have come to this restaurant for and we had an absolutely amazing experience. The food was.
Great, The service was better than good, And I thought the food came out at a reasonable amount of time. That was then, And this is now. Earlier today we came for the second time. I ordered the hot honey chicken macaroni and cheese. It took some time to get it and i'm okay with that, But our waitress, well, I think was new and didn't know what she was doing. After receiving my meal I realized I did not like the flavor. The chicken portion was fine, But the macaroni and cheese taste like metal, It could be because it came in a cast iron scale it and maybe they're using a non stick spray that has a bad taste. I've experienced that before as well, not here though. Is in short, I complained to our waitress about my food tasting bad, and she said that she didn't know why it tasted that way and completely disregarded me. I didn't eat much of it and gave it back. She still charged me the full amount. Didn't even offer to exchange it for something else. After I told her I didn't like it. She still came back to the table and asked if I wanted a box for it to take home. I've already told her it was bad, why would you ask me that. At least my girlfriend liked her meal. I didn't want to make a scene so I took my loss. I may give it one more go, since my first time was great.
Service was okay….. server seemed new. Loaded fries 10, wings were trash. The wings used to be sooo good here. I asked for extra crispy and they were not. Garlic parm just had grated parm cheese on top. The REAL parm was better. I asked for a side of garlic and beer and my poor server went to the kitchen came back and told me they only give out sides of wet sauces not dry rubs. Not to mention it was not busy at ALL, and took prob at least 45 mins to get 15 wings and 2 orders of fries. During my visit I noticed other customer irritated about the service. No sense of urgency.
Stopped by while just passing through on a Saturday around 7. What a huge mistake. After waiting at a table in the basement for 10 minutes without staff even saying I'll be there when I can, we headed upstairs to the bar and watched 3 waitresses hastily making their own drinks. We left after 25 minutes of being ignored without even a drink. Empty seats at bar and tables up and down. This place needs some serious management, hostess, and bartender help. They are way understaffed and need to advertise reservations suggested. It's small, but they could be doubling their turnover. Two stars for the food because it is probably good. I liked the menu, and a friend recommended the wings.
I was visiting my parents who live in the area, from out of state, and they insisted we needed to go to The Wooden Keg. What an awesome bar! I loved the historical note of the location with the Molly Maguires. Growing up in the Skook, I know quite a bit about them, so it was awesome to see the tunnel and the historical information shared in the decor.
We had quite a few of their different entrees: loaded Irishman fries, roasted garlic parm wings, pierogies, French onion soup, blackened shrimp Alfredo, a brisket sandwich, buffalo chicken cheesesteak, and Mac and cheese. Our entire group was in love with the food, experience, and service. When we’re back in the area, we will definitely return!! I had the wings this time but next, I will definitely have one of their many Mac and cheeses (and some more wings because they are the best I’ve had to date!) I was super impressed by my moms Mac and cheese she chose, usually they are dry, under cheesed and under seasoned at restaurants. Not at The Wooden Keg! It’s creamy, cheesy and super flavorful. Can’t wait to come back!!
Awful, will never go back. WORST service I’ve ever experienced while dining out. Waitress never came over to the table & didn’t once ask us how anything was. That being my food was terrible. The Mac & cheese is more like butter noodles. When I asked for a plate to share my boyfriends food she just left the terrible food on the side of the table & avoided the table.. do better.
After visiting Yuengling, we came here for lunch. We looked up the area pubs and taverns, and came across the menu that I salivated over for 2 weeks. We ended up at the St. Clair location, which has a little different menu.... but don't let change your mind on location. The charm of this pub made me feel as I was in Ireland. I had the Irish Steak Sandwich, as I am from Philly, and she had the Paddy Melt. We shared the Guinness Gravy Fries. I ended up taking half of the cheesesteak home, as I was stuffed. The food was delicious, cheesesteak far exceeded my expectations ! Remember I'm from Philly, so I have had my share to compare to! We will be back to try their wings! That sauce selection is incredible! It also has a very interesting book case....
