We stopped here pre Covid and the food was fantastic. So much so that we saved it as a favorite when we travel down I-65. We were headed home from a 9 hour drive and thought hey, let’s stop in again for a wonderful homemade meal. It was probably 6:45-7 pm on a Friday night. Place was less than half full. Our server was Christie and she was outstanding and very friendly. Our food, not so much. We started with the bread and it didn’t disappoint. Very very good. Had the sampler platter and it too was pleasant. Wife ordered the open face roast beef and I had the meatloaf with mash, gravy, and Mac and cheese. I wanted the chicken liver but they were sold out. My meal looked like school cafeteria food and was pretty much on par with that same description. Meatloaf was bland and cold. The potatoes were pasty and the Mac and cheese was very starchy. Great texture and creamy cheese but the startch taste was overwhelming. Wife described the gravy as the kind you open a jar from Kroger and heat up. Nothing had that “home cooked” look, feel or taste besides the bread and jam. We had another 3 hr drive ahead of us so we both got a desert to go. She got the sugar cream pie and I, the Kentucky chocolate. The Kentucky chocolate was very good. The sugar cream…..tasted like it looked. (See pic)
Unfortunately, we may have to remove this from our ❤️on google maps. Hopefully with all the construction around there the business will improve and so will there food.
Absolutely a pleasure to go here! Santa, his elves and the Grinch were awesome for not only the children, but for the adults too! They were very sweet to my kiddos. My Grandmother, my mother and myself all worked here for years! And a big shout to PATTI, one of the finest waitresses at the Whistle Stop! If you ever eat here, please ask for Patti! May God Bless You All! Also go across the street to a beautiful Christmas display for sale inside the store.
This is a great diner to stop at! It's a great place to crash, relax and enjoy some soul food! Their speed won't have you flipping but you'll be happy to land there!
My food was really good. My grandsons country ham was very salty and the red eye.gravy was bland, but he loved the veggies. Went for lunch and got in within 30 minutes. Service was fantastic.
Awesome service, quick with your meal , cute environment. Could stand to be warmer inside
Haven't been here since either was a child and it was just as I remembered! My longest and best friend and I enjoyed the drive in to Glendale, the scenery is second to none! The Whistle Stop did not disappoint with The Hot Brown, baked apples, and the Catfish Sandwich...oh and I can't forget the Fried Green Tomatoes!! For dessert there was chocolate meringue pie, oh yeah! Oh my goodness!!! Everything was delicious and hot and served with a smile and friendly chat. It was like being in a friend's home! Can't wait to go back!
Indulging in the southern fried chicken here was a true delight! The impeccable blend of spices in the crispy coating heightened the culinary experience, while the succulent and flavorful meat left a lasting impression. The generous portion size exceeded expectations, and the attentive service added to the overall satisfaction. A definite haven for fried chicken aficionados!
WOW! Incredible food. Chicken fried steak, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, bread, fried spicy cheese, everything just spectacular. Young lady who waited on us, I doubt she was much older than 16, probably best restaurant service we have ever had. The dessert was beyond spectacular. Portions were good and prices very reasonable.
