On arrival we were helped upstairs with a very heavy case. Room was warm, clean and cosy. Lovely free toiletries and a great selection of free hot drinks in the room. Bed was comfy and room was clean. Great to have a hairdryer too! Ensuite was tiny but perfectly adequate. Loved the decor of the hotel generally. Did not try the restaurant as we were short of cash, but wish we had as the food looked excellent. Enjoyed a drink in the bar (a little pricey); lots of friendly locals and their dogs. As dog lovers we were in our element. Breakfast was served promptly; plenty of it, delicious, local food. We would definitely stay there again and will recommend to friends.||On the down side - again these comments are based on personal preference rather than "faults" - breakfast was lacking fruit juice, coffee should have been "real", and noise from somewhere in the hotel continued until 1 a.m. It didn't bother us in the slightest - people need to have fun - although light sleepers may have had concerns. Breakfast coffee served too soon - was served before breakfast so that by the time we'd eaten and drunk the coffee, it was lukewarm. Loo in ensuite didn't flush properly but this was due to septic tank and not a fault or complaint. The new owners have only been running this place a month and are doing a great job. Fantastic hotel - one of the best we've stayed in.
Stayed for 1 night with my daughter after visiting my other daughter in Lincoln, really wish I hadn't. Room was very shabby, dated and quite dirty. Old TV, shower cramped and toilet was pumped type. No extractor in shower room, Windows and curtains let noise and light in, floor boards creaked and mattress old.
Main problem though was that the pub had a lock-in or similar on the Friday we stayed and there was a lot of rowdy singing and noise from the bar which went on until around 3am.
Breakfast was poor, little choice and staff were put out that I'd asked for Scrambled eggs rather than fried. Dining room again was in dire need of updating.
The only positive thing I suppose, it was only 1 night. I should have read other reviews of the place before booking as there were similar reviews to mine! My wife, who was too ill to travel, got off lightly, having said that, if she'd have been with us, we would have left sooner! Dated December 2014.
booked a family room for a Friday night. 1st impression of the room was that it was shabby, dated and in good need of updating. Situated above the bar, I thought the noise would die down after 11pm. It didn't. At 2am I went to my car to get some ear plugs and I'm guessing things quieten end down around 3am. Singing, banging on tables, music and general rowdiness.||The shower in my room was poor, no ventilation fan, windows were single glazed and with no blackout blinds, let both the street light illuminate the room as well as allow the chiming of the church bell every hour through the night. Mattresses were in dire need of replacing and really uncomfortable.||Breakfast in the morning whilst freshly cooked, lacked any choice with the owner being put out that I'd asked for scrambled eggs rather than fried! Tomatoes were tinned, no fruit juice or cereals on offer and only white bread. Overall, really disappointing.||This was not like any other hotel I've stayed in before, it was a pub that liked lock-ins & let out the occasional room above the bar, no care for their paying guests or the neighbours that must get disturbed each weekend. I can't think of a single thing that was pleasurable about the stay. Awful nights sleep, lousy hosts and a second rate breakfast.||Just wish I'd read some of the reviews beforehand but it was the closest place I could get to where I had been, should have carried on driving.
Stayed with my husband in July, the room was dirty, the TV did not work, the bathroom was old and neglected. The breakfast was not too bad, but I would not stay here again. There are many better places to stay in the area for around the same money, try Supreme Inns, very good value and clean!! The bedroom was very hot and stuffy, next morning we found a fan tucked at the side of the wardrobe which we would have used if we had been informed.
We stayed in the family room in february and we were disappointed from the start. The room was ver dirty, we couldn't find the tv control until we were leaving and then found it in a pile of dirt and hair by the side of the bed. The smaller bed mattress was stained and we had to push cushions into the window frame to stop the draughts from the holes in them. Breakfast was okay, but we didn't get what we ordered and then had to ask for plates and hunt down the cutlery! The dining room was deserted for 20 minutes before anyone came to us, but it gave us time to see just how dirty the floor was. Never again and will only recommend to anyone not to stay there.
We have just returned from 3 nights B & B at this old country pub . First we received a great welcome from the publican David . Next up was the girls serving on the tables . These girls are great and polite and most helpful and friendly . And this was followed by the food . The chef we understand is the son of David and he does not let his father down . All his dishes are freshly cooked and not microwaved and tasted superb . As was the breakfast cooked to order . Be prepared to wait a short time longer as all the food is cooked to order . While waiting for your meal sample the excellent cask ales kept by David a landlord who knows his beers . Many thanks for our stay . We will return !!!!
We booked in for a one night stay to visit nearby relative. Room okay....floor on the slant and the bed went the other way...different (But old place to be expected..did"nt have a drink even). was bit noisy at leaving time out front and floor creaked a great deal from above? us. Window bit drafty in night. Had a excellent breakfast upon leaving to set us up for the day. Nothing too much trouble for the staff at all....even the Chef opened the door for us coming in at night.. Not bad stay.
This hotel was ok and I would consider staying here again if I really had to. The room had been cleaned but wasn't spotless (the pillows had someone else's hair on them and one of the 'clean' towels was filthy. They were generous with tea and coffee though and it's over a reasonably decent pub too.
