Perfect! We had not done our research in to local restaurants and more so the lack of so we came across this place on trip advisor on the way to our accommodation - we were incredibly lucky to get a table and I’d strongly suggest you book if you’re passing by, if you do not you’ll truly miss out!
The food is beautiful, well sourced, well prepared and well presented. I had Cullen Skink to start, Venison main and Cheese for dessert and my friend had Black Pudding, the lamb and rhubarb sorbet. We cannot rate it enough. It was all outrageously delicious! Did see some vegan and veggie options too so don’t miss out if you’re not a meat eater.
Not only was the food incredible, the couple that run the Whale Tale are so friendly and accommodating, the service was perfect too.
Warm, welcoming little restaurant. A place to have nice dinner or to just get a coup of coffee and chill. Would love to come here more often.
I had seafood platter which was fresh and made to perfection. Compliments to the chef!! Staff (sorry, I didn't get his name) was kind, efficient and pleasant to talk to.
Brilliant restaurant and food. Very nice staff and cosy place.
The food was excellent from the soup of the day, the main course until the homemade ice creme.
Definitely recommend. Don’t forget to make a reservation.

My best meal in Scotland.
Well cooked great produce.
Friendly service.
BYOB without corkage fee.
I had a second main course, that's how good it was!
This place is a hidden gem!
As one reviewer mentioned, this place serves quality over quantity. The menu is small, accommodates vegan friends and the food is simply delicious! They do not serve alcohol but they do make a home made lemonade with Mint or Ginger.
My girlfriend had the langoustine dish and I chose the salmon with linguine. I have to say first... I'm not particularly a lover of pasta but the chef at The Whale Tale made it so delicious that I had to finish the lot. (I was also contemplating on asking them to make me the linguine on its own with the sauce for me to take away!)
I couldn't take photos of our food as I was a little hungry...
Stopped off for lunch while on a road trip. Would have liked to had tried dinner. Menu looked good. Had a nice bagel and great coffee. Served by a very friendly young man. Perfectly clean and comfortable spot.
Amazing find! Great lunch, fabulous coffee, stylish space with nice details/touches and friendly welcoming staff. Would 100% recommend to anyone.
Nice food , nice service- we were only looking for restaurants run by local business as the part of our NC500 and happy to find this
