Food looks better than it tastes. Lots of menu items not available. Our food took ages to come and was cold when it arrived. Gluten free options meant just leaving some items off the plate and there was no flexibility in the menu - not able to switch one veg for another for example. Just had to buy an extra side.
Ordered 4 breakfasts as soon as bar opened so not busy. Food arrived in a timely manor but was cold. Would probably not eat here again.

Shame restaurant food was awful!
Paid nearly £50 for all our food and drinks. Chips weren't freshly cooked. Chicken were dry. No one even checked if were happy with our food!
Surprisingly decent food and service given the wonderful location. Staff rushed off their feet but do their best with demanding tourists
, saw them go out of their way to help a elderly couple go through the menu and explain the app and nightly offers, even talking them through the wines they had to offer and bringing all the bottles to the table for them to choose from. Not that cheap, but where is these days?

I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent visit to this establishment. My partner and I arrived at your establishment, hoping to grab a bite to eat before continuing with our day. We were pleased to see that you were still serving lunch until 16:30pm and we were looking forward to trying some of the items on your menu.
However, much to our dismay, we were informed by the staff that the kitchen had already closed, and we could not order any food and that you wouldn't be serving food again until 17:00pm, 1 hour and 20ish minutes later! We were shocked to hear this, as we had arrived well before the advertised cutoff time for lunch service.
This episode and experience have left a sour taste in our mouths, and I feel compelled to share my feedback.
I hope you can appreciate the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused us and take steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future. I hope that you will take appropriate action to address this issue.
I would suggest bringing inside your outdoor POS 'Lunch Deal' and taking the menus off your tables until you're ready to serve food. This way, your team won't watch people for 10 minutes looking at the menu before they come to the bar to say you're not serving food.
I don't blame the team. I just think they need training and guidance.
Just been to visit Challaborough, the location is great but this restaurant/bar is a shambles. We found the staff rude and abrupt, the kitchen was never open when we wanted food (even though it’s clearly advertised on the menus as being open). This happened 2 of the 4 days we were there. Luckily we brought shopping with us. We actually left a day early out of the 4 days we were there as we’d had enough. Wouldn’t recommend really needs a staff training programme put in place and actual notice that the kitchen is closed as there is not really anywhere else to eat.
This place is part of the Park Dean caravan holiday rentals , its kept very clean & tidy, once meals arre finished , waste cleared up quickly. The staff are mainly mid too late teens , but very polite and friendly. A strict uniform code is very apparent. We have dined there quite often, and the food has been very good value for money, brought to table quickly and hot . Now, as mentioned, this is a holiday park , so children & dogs are in abundance, which speaks for itself. There was plenty of screaming kids , also a dog fight , which just could have been some entertainment thrown in. The Waterfont bar is fantasticly placed , exactly next to Challaborough beach .
Well worth a visit , it's a shame that Park Dean overpriced their caravan accommodation , as I would easily see double the people enjoying fantastic surrounding views, walks beach of this coastline.
Absolute shambles of a restaurant, have been visiting challaborough for over 30 years and not once have we received such poor attitude and service that we have this weekend.
Tried to order food on 3 separate occasions over our weekend stay to be told each time the kitchen was closed .
Breakfast until 11.30- tried to order at 11.10am and told the kitchen was now closed.
The menu states lunch 11.30-4.30pm
We wanted to catch an early lunch on Saturday before heading on with our day to be told the lunch doesn’t start until 12pm .
Ok no problem we decided to wait .
The following day (Sunday ) we decided to have lunch before heading home on our 3.5hr journey , we get to the bar at 2.55pm to be told the kitchen is now closed , although the kitchen staff were still preparing and sending out food, we asked if we could at least feed our 2 children and was told a firm no by the kitchen staff.
We then headed to reception to find out if this is normal procedure when the park is busy … she said it wasn’t and called the restaurant manager to speak to us……
Well I never the attitude was nothing put poor , shrug of his shoulders and basically told tough there’s nothing he can do .
A real poor visit this weekend which has put us off returning.
