We spent 2 nights here, staying in adjoining rooms in the annexe with my mother-in-law. The owner was very welcoming, friendly and polite. The full English breakfast was amazing, 10/10 on presentation, taste & readiness. The double bed in our room was extremely soft and dipped in the middle - so much so that my husband & I kept rolling inwards to the middle of the bed all night!! The rollers were also not locked in place so the bed moved across the floor easily. The desk chair legs were buckled and unusable. The wet room was fine, but the whole room could do with a good scrub (dead flies in bathroom sink & ants in main room). Overall it was a lovely stay, and I would return - but ask for a different room.
Stayed one night in one of the annex rooms at the back of the property. Sorry to say, but one night was enough. Plus points were comfortable bed, nice towels, good shower, and good location. On entering the room, it smelt very musty, and we had to leave the front door open to air the place. The room was very dated with dusty, stained carpets. The bottom of the clothes hanging area was a complete mess. There was damage on the bathroom door, a layer of dust on the bin lid - quite clearly not been cleaned over several lets. The toilet itself would have benefited from some bleach, and disinfectant. The paint work on the windowsill needed urgent attention. The sanitary product bag holder was dirty and empty. And the ill-fitting sink plug didn’t have a chain, but somebody in their infinite wisdom seemed to think a pink paper clip would do the job just as well! The hospitality tray left a lot to be desired. As for the “private” patio - you virtually sit in the car park. The path surface to and from the main building is nothing short of dangerous. |Breakfast the next morning was in the restaurant which lacked any sort of ambiance other than a works’ canteen! It was self-service for tea, coffee, basic mini boxes of cereal, toast and juice. The main option was only full-English, and not a single piece of fruit in sight. Having ordered two cooked breakfasts, we had great anticipation that it would live up to recent reviews and maybe even the picture on the website. How wrong we were. Not only did it arrive with items missing, the ingredients were very cheap. The beans consisted of more sauce than beans and the sausage was tasteless. Our cereal bowls and empty cereal boxes were left on our table, not taken away when our breakfast was brought out. The young man who was serving the breakfasts, although pleasant, needed more lessons in customer service. |There is absolutely no way this establishment should be advertised as 4-star. Two star at best! Has it been taken over recently?? It certainly needs re-rating. A past reviewer compared it to “Fawlty Towers on steroids”. That’s a bit of an insult to Fawlty Towers.
It was our first time staying at the vines hotel and we will certainly be coming back here. Fantastic value for money, lovely modern, clean rooms that feel homely. Nice quiet area so slept very well. Breakfast was decent, choice of yogurt, toast, cereal and cooked breakfast. We had the full English breakfast which was cooked beautifully and just the right size to be able to enjoy it all!! ????
Staff were helpful and very friendly. It was very busy on our last morning at breakfast which was a bit more of a wait, but staff kept us informed and apologised for the delay which was fine.
Perfect distance for us visiting our daughter in bampton, and also near enough to friends in Curbridge and Witney areas. We will definitely be back! ????
The hotel was nice enough and included parking. On entering the hotel the bar and lounge are decorated lovely with a cosy log fire, modern decor, plenty of comfortable sofas and lovely touches. The bar wasn't open until 5pm but the checkin was 3pm which could do with improving. All the staff were lovely, especially the manager who was very welcoming. Breakfast was good and you could help yourself to lovely coffee, toast, yoghurts etc. It would be good if they could invest in updating the annexe accommodation to the same standard of decor as the hotel as it would then be perfect. It was clean, tidy, warm but just a little dated, particularly the bathrooms. We were only staying for one night and used it as a base to attend a party in another village. Taxi services in the area were very poor so bear this in mind if you have an upcoming trip. Bar staff at the party venue had to bring us back to our hotel as nothing was available in the area due to a wedding somewhere. Ps a full length mirror in the rooms would be great please. I would go back.
We went to a wake at The Vines and i have never had such a beautiful atmosphere anywhere.
We ended up staying from 3pm all the way until 11pm!!
The place is clean and with great amenities.
Thank you team for being so amazing!
The family running is so so lovely and they’re so dedicated.
Great vibe, clean and an amazing breakfast.
The family running the hotel were amazing and went the extra mile by helping us jump start our car! Highly recommend if people are in the Cotswolds
I found this hotel through Booking.com. I work in the area occasionally and the hotel near Witney I had previously used had turned its services over to the Home Office. Accommodation in the area is expensive, so even though The Vines isn’t cheap, it is reasonable for the area. It’s set in a lovely, quiet, quaint village next door to an old church and its grounds. The main pub building has its own share of charm. My room was in the annex to the rear of the main building. It was very clean, comfortable and, judging by the the nice clean carpet, very recently refurbished. Bathroom had a basin and shower, towels were good quality and the water pressure was good. The wash basin did not have soap, only hand lotion. When I needed to wash my hands and face I had to step into the shower to get soap. A minor inconvenience. I did ask for soap for the hand basin twice and never got it. The bed was large and very comfortable, room temperature was good and there was little to no noise disturbance from outside. I could hear my neighbours talking when they made phone calls, so I think if you had inconsiderate neighbours that could be a problem. Other than the odd phone call I didn’t hear mine at all. The room had a kettle, coffee sachets, tea bags, sugar, whitener and a small daily bottle of water. The TV on the wall was very small. Breakfast was well prepared and good quality. It was a bit “Freddie Mercury” (one bacon, one egg, one sausage, one hash brown etc) but there was toast and yoghurt, so overall the offering was filling. Coffee was good quality filter coffee. The staff were all impeccably polite. I did not eat there as the one night I intended to eat there they weren’t doing any actual meals, just pizza. The meals on the menu do sound very appetising, but it seems hit and miss as to whether they’ll be available. Not sure why that is. I think the only grounds I could see others having valid complaints is the suggestion that it is “4 star”. There’s not much wrong with what they offer, but “4 star” tends to relate to the range of services on offer, not the standard, and this is a 3 star range of services. The other things I’ve seen people moan about in some other reviews I can’t say I saw much evidence of. There was no reception desk. Your access to staff seemed to be at breakfast time and pub opening hours. I don’t know what the out of hours contact arrangement is and I don’t remember seeing any emergency numbers or information anywhere in my room.
Cute little hotel in the costwolds.
The room was cosy , the bed comfortable.
Breakfast was descent even if not much choice.
It could get busy/noisy over the weekend if you are in the rooms above the bar.
Good experience overall.
