Clean and nice. The service and food excellent. It is a old typical scottish hotel. It is no toilet and shower in the rooms. But rooms are nice and clean. The shower and toilet room also nice and clean. Service and helpfulness is outstanding. Food is traditional and very good. Fresh and very good fish and chips. Big portions so it is value for money.
This is one of those really good places that you remember, and try to find again, every time in the future that you decide to have a pub lunch when touring. We were especially lucky to find it as it was nearly 3pm when usually lunch places are closed. We had a really good midweek lunch here today. I had the fish and chips, which were cooked to perfection and my husband had the BLT burger which was very nice. Would definitely recommend.
The best fish and chips I've had in a long time. We just stopped on the off chance that we could have lunch at a time in the afternoon when so many pubs are closed and we were lucky. Highly recommended after a visit to Fyvie Castle.
We stopped here on the way to Five Castle as it said Open and "Pub Food". It was lunch hour but the place was deserted. So we had a private lunch. The owner was really nice and the food (hamburger, lasagne and chips) was really good. A bit surreal, but I would recommend it for the food and drinks.
We were headed for an event at Fyvie Castle so I called the Vale Hotel to ask what time they served meals and asked if I should book a table. The answer was no but, when we arrived, a table had been set for us near the wood-burning stove. We were all alone for the duration of our meal which was a great shame as the food was delicious and really good value. We were intrigued by a lovely wall hanging next to our table and eventually figured out it was a radiant heater positioned to make us even cosier on a wild, wet evening. . We enjoyed fish and chips with a tasty side salad and steak and ale pie with beautifully cooked veg. Service was friendly and we will definitely return to eat there again. Others should go - they definitely deserve to be busy.
We stopped in for a meal in the restaurant on our way to visit Banff and Macduff. We had a good and hearty roast beef lunch and some dessert and went on our way. The food and service was good. Staff went out of their way to help us come into the restaurant setting up a ramp to enter and exit the building as one person in our group uses a wheeled walker.
Visiting Aberdeen and its environs, we stumbled into the Vale Hotel, and how lucky we were to do so. Such a proper pub with outrageously friendly and generous people (perhaps we are judging by London standards), and the food is the real thing—so good, fresh, and satisfying. We spent the whole day there, aside from our visit to the nearby castle, and were sad when we had to leave in the evening.
The Vale, and the people we met there (there were many locals popping in and out all day) constitute some of our warmest and most abiding memories of our trip, and we'd love to visit again some day.....
Generous portions of food. From Vegan to fresh fish and meat dishes. Cooked to order and so tasty. The Vale is homely and clean and really friendly. It's also got a nice wee public bar, car park and cosy rooms upstairs for once you have sampled the well stocked bar.
