I was recently there to celebrate with the family and my special diet needs which are gluten AND diary free were again nicely look after. This time the Thisle Inn has really stepped up with a new way to let me know what I can or cannot eat. They took the normal menu and with a pen crossed out and notes added what I can or cannot eat and they recommended what to add instead. This way I did not need to either read a menu with millions of codes to indicate what is in that dish or listen to the waiter and remembering all the dishes I could eat. Normally by the time the waiter told me everything half is already forgotten. :-)
Anyway it was a pleasure to go there for the service AND their FOOD.

Ate here on several nights during a recent trip to Cumnock - apparently under new management since Autumn 2022. Had a different meal every time, and all were excellent. Great example of keeping a small menu and doing everything right. A very nice quiet wee pub with a very pleasant indoor dining area with around ten tables. Recommend booking ahead at the weekend, as you may not get a seat.
Went for Christmas lunch with a group. Menu very reasonably priced with a good selection. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the heating and bar/restaurant area was extremely cold. Table was booked for 1200, and drinks orders were not taven until a good 10 minutes after all had arrived, with food orders even slower in being taken. Both drinks and food came in dribs and drabs, with some people waiting longer than others and having to be reassured their order was coming. However, food tasted good and was warm and filling.
The staff are very gracious and accommodating. The food is amazing and our room was clean, modern and spacious. There is lovely personal touches too. Nothing is too much trouble and we had a ball. Castle Douglas is just down the road and A75 to explore further. We'll be back for sure!! ????
Lovely staff great food at reasonable prices
We both really enjoyed our meal at The Thistle Inn. The portions were plentiful. We were really pleased to get a decent amount of veg with our food too. Desserts were tasty, and we were happy overall.
The only complaints I had was that we waited quite a long time to be served our drinks. We'd already finished our starters before being served our drinks, and the disabled toilet was of no use whatsoever to any disabled person. It was being used as a storeroom, and was so full of dining chairs, you couldn't possibly get from the door to the toilet. Apart from that, we will go back again, due to the delicious food ???? Compliments to the Chef.

I could not rave about The Thistle Inn enough! The service was unbelievably amazing, the food was spectacular and the atmosphere was perfection. Our waiter set us up by the fire pit after our meal and took a small group to the bar to hand select some scotch.
All of the staff were so friendly and our did every expectation we had. We cannot wait to go back!
