Staying at the Travelodge across the road. Decided to give this place a chance.. Hardly any people in the pub.. Had few drinks before I was going to order. Thankfully the bar man told me they where shutting the kitchen at 8 because the pub was dead. If he hadn't I wouldn't of been able to order. Strange policy.. I ordered the Sirloin steak. Arrived after 15 mins. Was an ok meal. Chips a little under done. Steak was very thin and a bit dry. Seemed a better chose than the carvery.. The staff where very polite and helpful.. No complaints there... Pub has a pool table and has a nice feel.
Brilliant buffet with plenty carved meat ???? excellent value for money ????
Best carvery in area. Good portions. Lovely friendly staff
Has definitely become poorer over the past 6 months or so. It used to be a reliable eatery and you were guaranteed a tasty carvery or alternative meal, but not so great now. Reduced choice, poorer quality of cooked vegetables - no chips or baked beans on the carvery meal - and the macaroni cheese was the worst I can honestly say I have tasted. The waiting staff are as helpful and approachable as ever, but I'm not sure if the Stonefield chain management has been trying to reduce costs/increase profit or if there has been change of head Chef. Either way, its not as good as it used to be.
As a cheap, local carvery this ticks all the boxes, but with a bit more love and attention could be so much better.
The first table we sat at looked like it hasn't been wiped clean, and in addition the cutlery was dirty (the friendly staff member was very apologetic when we pointed this out). The second table was better.
Meat was overcooked, while the veggies were fine (and unlimited), but considering the price it's still a good meal.
Arrived there with my grandad just as the place was opening for the day. The person who served us was attentive enough without being overbearing. The food was very good, beef was just perfect. We got a plateful each for the price. Between me and my grandad we were little over £20, well worth going to as excellent value for money, excellent food and excellent service.
Sadly my experience was not so good. The carvery that we had was at best luke warm. The meat was dry due to being the end bits. The roast potatoes tasted undercooked and the mash had lumps. Service was friendly though and place looked clean and plenty of parking. Hopefully this was just a one off day for them.
If I could give it 0 stars I would. Used to go a lot and never realised it had changed to the stone field. £26 total bill even though our daughter was £1. Meat was awful! More fat than meat, potato was very bland no seasoning at all and the veg was bland too. No stuffing anymore which was a disappointment so basically paid for a plate of fatty meat, bland veg and potato and some gravy that tasted like it had been mixed up out of a packet. The tastiest part was the onions on the gravy and I’m not even joking. Left 3/4 of the meat and left to go home and get something to eat. Very disappointed and won’t be back. Used to be mobbed on a Sunday at dinner time and it had only had 3 couples and a family in.
