We recently spent a week on holiday near dumfries and discovered this lovely pub on a walk to the beach with our dog.
The pub is dog friendly so we decided to call in for lunch. The staff were really friendly and the pub had an open fire burning which was lovely after a chilly walk along the beach.
The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. We would definitely highly recommend visiting the Steamboat Inn if you are in the area!
We went for a lunch on Monday . Meal was delish but expensive for a lunch. We had 3 course and 2 course Meal all was very delish. A little work needing done with a duster around the conservatory although the tables where really clean the seats could do with a refresh.
We had a meal ( 5 of us) and it was exceptional. Two of us had Seabass , one fish and chips and two Steak Pies . Honestly the best meal out I've had in ages and I'm fussy. Was piping hot and lively sele tikn if veg too.The service was also really friendly and fast. Can't wait to come back . Just wow.
The pub itself is great - lots of wood panelling and old world charm plus a good range of beers. Only three stars though as the service was mediocre. I understand that rural pubs need to make the majority of their income from food, but after asking if there were any particular tables I could sit at with just a beer I was told I could go anywhere in the bar area as food didn't start til 5. At 4.45 a barman brought napkins and cutlery to the table without acknowledging I was there. Five minutes later I was asked how long I planned to sit there because he needed the table. The room was totally empty. I felt quite unwelcome, finished the last dregs I had left in my pint and left at 4.50 before any of the tables were taken. Could have been handled much better
Had lunch here. You definitely need to book during busy times.
The location and view is excellent. The staff were really friendly and pleasant.
The food was ok but not exceptional. (I'd skip the vegetable noodle dish - lots of chilli but not very flavoursome.) My husband's burger and fish soup were good.
Great food, and riendly service.
A cosy bar and tables overlooking the Solway.
Outside tables for the summer months. A holiday let available to the rear suitable for a small family but no accommodation in pub.
2nd visit of the week to this great pub.
Food, as always, was fantastic as was the service.
The staff are great, chatty and friendly.
We have never been disappointed when we've visted here.
The haggis bon bons have to go on the menu as a starter.
Fantastic place to eat and have a drink. Large portions, fresh ingredients and very well cooked and presented. Service was friendly and helpful. Allen was brilliant, especially with our stupid chocolate labrador lol. Great selection of drinks and a very cosy place to wile away a few hours. Can't recommend highly enough!
