We've been here a few times and have enjoyed ourselves every visit. The staff is welcoming and takes care to make sure everything is great. We've tried many items on the menu and everything we've had is excellent. My husband's favorite is the chicken and waffles. I really enjoy the steak and eggs, the burger, and the shrimp and grits. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the biscuits and gravy are because most places use packaged mixes and shortcuts, but at this scratch- kitchen the flavors shine. We had the cheese board this latest visit and it was picture perfect and tasted even better then it looked!
What a great time at The Southern on 8th. Its a restaurant that we've passed a few times but have never entered. Great prices, awesome service, and such a chill spot to be. We will definitely come back to try the dinner menu.
We had dinner this evening at The Southern on 8th. I heard a lot of good things and had to try them for myself since I have a friend visiting for the weekend. I was not disappointed!!
Ask for ABBY she was great, she welcomed us explained that everything is made when you order it so be patient people… it’s worth it.
We ordered the roasted vegetable risotto, herbed crusted chicken with a side of Mac and cheese (the Mac & cheese was on the dry side) BUT flavorful. The entire meal was flavored to perfection. Order the muffins with the pimento cheese and honey butter- yummmmy. My friend is vegan so no meat and they put the bacon for the Mac and cheese on the side - jeeze I needed a vat more of that deliciousness.
Ohhh make sure Matt is at the bar so he can make your drinks - nice nice baby.
Looking forward to my next visit - the menu has a lot that I can’t wait to taste.
I recently visited Southern on 8th, a restaurant that’s become a local favorite for its fantastic food and the unique experience of The Cellar Room’s monthly comedy show. As a notary, I found this to be the perfect setting for a blend of business and pleasure.
Arriving a bit early, I indulged in their delectable corn muffins and biscuits, paired with a creative twist on a margarita, substituting vodka for tequila. The staff was wonderfully accommodating, helping me take my drink down to the Cellar Room as the doors opened for the comedy show.
When my fellow notary friend joined, we ordered the short rib open-faced sandwiches, which were absolutely delicious. The rich flavors and perfect preparation of the short ribs made the meal a highlight of the evening.
The comedy show in The Cellar Room added a fantastic element to the night. It was the ideal way to relax and enjoy some laughs while also having the opportunity to discuss business matters in a casual setting.
This was my second visit to Southern on 8th, and it solidified my opinion of it as a top-notch venue. The combination of mouth-watering Southern cuisine, a unique and fun-filled comedy experience, and the cozy ambiance of the Cellar Room makes this restaurant a must-visit. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and am eagerly looking forward to returning.
The reviews really surprised us, this place is a solid just okay nothing worth traveling for. They were also out of 6 things on the menu..huge red flag. Risotto was so overcooked and underwhelming it wasn't funny. For some reason they put us at a bar table even though we were looking at a nice dining room with plenty of open tables. Wine was open a day too long just nothing great to bring us back. Service was friendly and attentive.
Kimberly (my wife) and I have been to The Southern several times and we love it. The food is amazing and the service is refreshingly excellent.
The last time we were there we sat at the bar and were served by the bartender Maleah, who was extremely helpful and made us delicious Martinis.
The menu is small but delicious. The reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 to “Food” is because they changed the menu and removed MY FAVORITE dishes (Burrata Salad and Grilled Pork Chop).
In any case, when I saw that my favs were no longer on the menu I was so disappointed that I was just going to have my other favorite (Gator Tail) and go somewhere else. I guess the bar manager noticed and came to talk to us. I explained my disappointment and to my surprise, she brought me a Burrata Salad, which she made herself!!!! Her name is Jessica and she was incredible. That’s what customer service is all about and she personifies it!!!
Kimberly had the chicken salad and it was also delicious. I know this because I ate half of it (Kimberly almost killed me) ????????????
I highly recommend the Gator Tail appetizer. It’s the best I have ever had. Also, if you go to The Southern, ask for the bar manager Jessica. She will make sure you have a great experience.
If management reads this, Please BRING BACK the Burrata Salad and the Grilled Pork Chop!!
Visiting from NY, we closed Southern and 8th to celebrate the achievements of our young graduates, with Family. we were greeted and seated immediately (with a reservation of course) Maurice our server was great, he took the time to answer questions and was very attentive.
We dined on the shrimp & grits, crab and fish dip, open sandwiches, burgers and smoked salmon we enjoyed the mimosas, sangria, pink lady and a JW Black on the side. (I Wasn't too crazy for the BlackBerry Smash ) but that is a taste one must care for ☺️. Our meals were served at the right temperature and presented well.
Very happy we came out and chose Southern and 8th to make memories with our loved ones.
Ordered fried New York strip with potatoes & mac and cheese! Steak and potatoes with sacude were amazing but the mac and cheese was a little dry. Service was amazing and we will definitely be back! Thank you for your hospitality Tracy! And our appetizer the fish dip and bread—- OMG!! A must try!
