Good: Was here for breakfast. Basic and reasonably priced. No frills type restaurant. They have outdoor covered seating. Serve yourself coffee with several choices. Utensil choices of metal or individually wrapped at the fountain drink station. Forgot to get a pic before I started eating but I went with a simple 2 scrambled eggs and toast — they had 5 different choices of toast so I went with raisin toast. The two eggs portion seemed about the right amount.
For improvement: One of the coffee cups I picked up at the coffee station had a coffee ground in it so I simply grabbed a different cup. Lighting inside was kind of dark.
Bad: Nothing bad.

First timer. Hidden gem, it was a fun place to eat at. Indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of food choices and dessert options. Food was delicious! I ordered the teriyaki chicken, which tasted exactly like the kind you get at the mall, with collard greens and mac and cheese. My girlfriend got a chicken sandwich, which she said was good. All of the staff was friendly. Would recommend and eat there again!
The BBQ is top notch, the salads were loved by the wife and kid, the beer is cold.
The only thing I do not like is the ordering of food at the counter and having to go to the bar to get more beer. But that's me, just a peeve of mine alone. Other than that, a must go to place if in the area.
We were up in Jacksonville from West Palm Beach for a work conference and stayed at the Southbank Hotel. On our last morning in Jax, we needed a place to have breakfast, so I spotted The Southern Grill on Google Maps. It said, “Best breakfast in Jacksonville,” so we decided to give it a try.
We were not disappointed! From the moment we walked in, I really liked the place. My affinity for it only grew as we placed our order with a very friendly counter girl, filled out drinks at the soda fountain, and took a table.
Soon after that, our breakfasts were delivered. The food was very tasty and cooked the way it should be. My omelette was fluffy and had plenty of fillin’s. Texas-style rye toast was a nice touch.
The Southern Grill ended up being one of the highlights of my three days in Jacksonville. I wish only that we had taken more of our meals there. I’d definitely return if I ever get to stay in Jax again.
What a nice little southern eaten spot! I don’t eat meat, so couldn’t have any of the barbecue, but even for a vegetarian, it smelled good! Plus all the customers in there were raving about how great it is. So, even though I’m reviewing for vegetarian options, The BBQ in this joint looks worth trying. They have tons of sides for vegetarians. I tried the sweet potato, which was absolutely out of this world, best, sweet potato I’ve ever had. It was smoked. I also tried the okra and stew, tomatoes, the red beans and rice, and the Mac & cheese. Everything was really good. I would definitely come back if I am in the area again.
The bartender, Christian, was absolutely fantastic. What a sweetheart!
Travelling through and discovered this gem with Google map search for Restaurants on Route, fast, fresh meal, very reasonably priced with large servings. Large menu choices and bonus live band playing on an
outside deck with video screens indoors to comfortably listen & watch the band while we enjoyed our meal.
We loved this place. Excellent service, great prices, and delicious food. We'll be back!
Good breakfast, as far is for lunch is just ok. Reminds of a school cafeteria. Everything is precooked in the back just waiting for someone to order and the scoop it and serve it. Cool aquarium, and server and Host were nice
