We heard good things about this online so when we were staying in Manhattan we couldn’t not get the subway over to Brooklyn and as part of our final day in NYC before going back to London we ate here. Very small but just about able to pull 5 chairs together to eat. Between us we had some curried goat, fried chicken, oxtail, rice n peas, veg rice, Mac n cheese and the cornbreads. The food is amazing. The service is great- very friendly and welcoming. Great to see a black owned business (we are all Black British). Wish we lived closer! The portions were humungous! Great spot to eat. If you’re close enough and lucky enough to live near here - you will have plenty of food for your leftovers the next day!
Order a cat fish lunch with a side of yams and Mac and cheese, the yams and Mac ????the cat fish was well seasoned and had a nice crunch, just taste like it grew up in prospect park.
This place is AMAZING. First and foremost food is halal! Restaurants diversifying halal cuisines in NYC are always welcome !
They have a huge hot display of a variety of classic Caribbean/ southern soul remixes. I ordered chicken 2 ways and my cousin ordered the fried chicken. The chicken was succulent and flavorful while maintaining juiciness! The sides (Mac and cheese , tostinas, okra) were filling and well made as well.
My only complaint is I receive the same type of chicken when I ordered two different types. ????
Would love to see this expand as a restaurant for family dining.
I was craving some oxtails and ran into this place on google and I tried it out the two ladies were friendly and they pack the container very well .
I had gotten oxtail with rice and peas and Mac and cheese.
Oxtail was very tasty but seasoned
Rice and peas was very good as well
Mac and cheese was delicious and perfect texture for me .
I had also gotten a cheesecake and banana pudding.
Cheese cake was delicious
Not really a fan of Banana pudding but this one was good too.
The Soul Spot is definitely a soullllllll spot. The curry chicken and black eyed peas was soooooooo flavorful and juicy. The fried catfish was some of the best fried catfish I’ve ever had. The baked macaroni and cheese was really good too and so was my half and half. This was my first time visiting New York and i definitely wanna come back and eat here again. The staff was very friendly. 10/10 highly recommend.
I took my friend who is visiting new york for the first time and decided to show him some foods he normally can't eat where he's from. The lady working the line/counter was so sweet and friendly, and the food was delicious!
I ordered a curry goat lunch, and the curry had potatoes in it, just how I like my curry goat :) The rice and peas was well cooked, and the macaroni was also great. My friend had the jerk chicken, and he loved it! I was a little bit worried since it was my first time coming to this spot, but it was some of the best curry goat I've had! My friend also liked his jerk chicken very much.
It isn't really a place to dine-in, but definitely fast and great for take out. The price is fair, the food is good, I highly recommend!
At what point does a business, especially a restaurant, say to its self “this product we cooked is not able to be sold to our customers”?
If there was ever a case to say that and stand by it…. This was the time! I ordered lunch from this place today and I’ve ever been more disappointed. The cornbread was burnt. When I say burnt I mean it was black on all sides. Not just the top but the bottom and the sides. Very disappointing!
It’s obvious that it was not fresh. I could not believe I received this from an actual restaurant.
If I made this at home for free I still would not eat it if it were that burnt. So for it to be sold to customers speaks volume!!!!
I ordered delivery on doordash and got the ox tail lunch special, boy was I struggling at work after that meal. I thought I would have enough for later there was so much but I lack self control and finished it, there might have been 2 drops of gravy left. I think the portion of meat is fantastic, I don't know other places that give this much meat over the sides. But the flavor, absolutely delicious and satisfying. I know you can't see it but this is how you do Mac and cheese, I'll probably order a side of that as well. Will definitely be ordering/visiting again!
