Delicious home made bread made especially for us, to order.
Thank you Ella, this made our holiday even more special.
Ella is a great host and made us feel very welcome in her pretty house. She makes a great cooked breakfast and her own baked bread and apple cake were delicious. The rooms and beds are comfortable and the en suite was spacious. Some rooms have lovely views over Loch Sunart. We really enjoyed our stay.
Never stayed in a B&B before and was unsure how it worked. Was pleasantly surprised, Ella was lovely and it was interesting to find out she's the village baker and does more then run the b&b. Breakfast was fantastic everyday and there was always fresh bread and cakes. The room we stayed in was the twin, can't complain at all, the bathroom was clean, the beds comfy. This is not a hotel don't expect a maid service. We were every comfortable in this location.
We spent two nights at Salen House and would highly recommend this place. It was extremely clean, the breakfast was amazing (!!) and the host made us feel extremely welcome, with tons of local tips on where to go for the day.||||The breakfast was the best part of our stay, with plenty of cakes and fresh fruits, homemade crepes and french toasts, and also cooked breakfast. All from local ingredients! The baking was absolutely amazing, especially the apple tart! ||||The room was well stocked with a great comfy bed and beautiful views over to the loch. We would highly recommend and will definitely come back! Thanks a lot for the hospitality Ella!
Top marks. Ella made us feel very welcome. We had a nice big room with views over the water. Breakfast was amazing, with not just a proper fry-up, but crepes, yoghurt and fruit too - definitely enough to get you through to dinner. Ella is also a photographer and has some great pictures of the local landscapes and the Northern Lights, which you can buy. And the apple cake is as good as everyone else has said. Thanks :)
Loved our stay, our bed was comfortable and we had a nice view over the Loch. Ella was a wonderful host, made delicious breakfasts and great cake and bread (I never usually eat bread but had trouble stopping ????). The take-away breakfast/lunch for our super early morning Ben Nevis hike was really appreciated. She also gave us some great recommendations for walks and places to take lovely photos (beautiful sunset at castle Tioram), we just hope we can return one day!
A 4 hour trip in the car with two children to get to Salen. Arrived book in at 6pm as requested and she had forgotten and had double booked our room!! She then suggested a place 20 mins away. ||||On arrival there greeted rudely, place smelling like a public toilet to be told room was twice the price of our booked B&B, didn't included breakfast and was a bunk room! Had to cancel our dinner reservation at the Salen hotel too. ||||There was nowhere else to stay so then decided to try in Fort William, got the ferry across to find out the road to Fort William was shut! It was 8pm by this point, managed to find a place serving food just before they closed at 8.30pm. ||||But with no place to stay by 9.30pm and with two very tired children, as a Sat night we had no choice but to head home over Glenco arriving at our house at 1am on Sunday morning. ||||Very disappointed at how blasé Ella was about the whole thing. Would not recommend. Ella said this happens to her every year, hope you're not next!
I stayed at Salen House at the end of April for three nights, and can highly recommend the B&B! The rooms are nicely decorated and perfectly clean, with big bathrooms. Ella, the host, is not only a great cook and baker (it's hard to decide whether to go for the Full Scottish Breakfast, or something sweet...), but she also is a keen and good photographer - which means she knows all the places to go for great views. And there are many of them in the area! Salen House is a great place to explore the most westerly corner of mainland Scotland!
