Best KPortal Reviews

BBQ joint with counter service and consistently good BBQ. The staff is very nice, bartenders are great and there’s a huge outdoor beach volleyball facility.
The entrance and front room are pretty lack luster, but the large open room is good. There are several picnic tables and groups of Adirondack chairs around tables overlooking the volleyball courts. They also have a substantial bar and stage for live music.
The BBQ is on point, particularly like the ribs.
Not impressed! I had the pulled chicken plate. The meat was dried out and did not have a lot of flavor. I couldn’t eat anymore after two bites. The sides weren’t much better. The Mac n cheese was noodles covered by some sauce that had no flavor. I didn’t like the potato salad. I did get a taste of someone’s brisket and it was pretty good.
The banana pudding dessert consisted of badly flavored banana pudding with a Nilla Wafer stuck in the middle.
They need to give some serious attention to the restrooms. The lights over the stalls don’t provide much light. The sink area was clean but I couldn’t tell if the stalls were clean.
Absolutely excellent BBQ. Tried to go in a Sunday and there were about 40 people waiting outside. Went on a Tuesday and there was no line. I ordered the pound of wings, but they said it is sold in increments of 6. Wings were excellent. 2nd best wings I’ve ever had, the best were at the Shed in Mississippi. Everyone I went with liked their food. Huge outdoor covered seating area. Will go back. Bathrooms were super clean.
The Shed Baton Rouge.
First let me say huge props for the people behind this project. You can tell it is locally owned, as what appeared like the owners were in there working. Walking around making sure people were getting served and happy.
Obviously with this place being as new as it is the line to order was long. We decided to place a call in order over the phone to skip the line. This was not a bad choice.
We sat at a table and when the food was ready I went to pay at the Togo stand (area) and sat back down to eat.
The chicken sandwich was VERY good. The chicken was pull apart style, not dry, and had an excellent coleslaw. The bun was also excellent.
The potato salad was not mayo-ee or mustard-ee. It was a white chilled potato salad which is my favorite and this one was VERY good!
The sweet potato in a cup was excellent!! Not over buttered not over seasoned with cinnamon and or nutmeg. Just real deal sweet potato with a sweet punch that was on the spot.
The ribs were fall off the bone tender. The smoke level was light.
The only bbq sauce I had was a sweet molasses style with a red peppery finish.
They were out of the popular macaroni and cheese.
Now for the ambience.
There was an arcade for the kids. The outside covered area had a big space for a covered outdoor dining feel. A very good local guitarist was playing and did a great job. There was a rear bar in that area. The volley ball sand courts were packed.
This was a relaxing vacation like atmosphere.
It was not quick dining so I wouldn’t go in there if you are in a hurry. I was very impressed with the working nature of the staff.
Great laid back atmosphere with decent food. Admittedly I only tried their loaded brisket nachos. My daughter had the chicken tenders. Volleyball was fun!
It's been a while since I've felt obligated to make a review like this but it must be done. First, I understand this is the second day of operation but the service was great.
I called in a pick-up order and was given an appropriate time and I received a text letting me know that my food was ready so plus there. The worker over the phone was polite and repeated my order but my order was wrong (not a big deal since I ordered a brisket sandwich plate but just received a brisket plate instead). Portion sizes did seem on par with what you would receive anywhere else but at a higher price.
The brisket was decent, the sweet casserole was mediocre but the mac & cheese was a disappointment (I've attached a picture). You would do better making Kraft Mac & Cheese at home. For the price and food impression, I can't justify trying it again when there's Hannah Q down the road. Hopefully, if you try, you will have a better experience.
As someone who has watched this business on MANY food shows, I have wanted to try them for years. Boy did this location disappoint. Starting from the beginning, the young woman at the counter was not interested in taking any order's. And most every thing we asked about, they were out of, only 1 drink machine worked and they were out of most of that. The pulled pork was so dry it was crunchy, the baby back ribs had zero flavor other than the super sweet sauce they were swimming in. The macaroni salad was very dry, the taste of Bell pepper overwhelmed the bbq beans. The chopped brisket was good and we really enjoyed the sausage. They were out of every other meat on their menu. The bathroom was awfully nasty, I decided not to use it.
The 2 working the back bar were wonderful!
Overall, we will not return to this location on any of our future trips to Baton Rouge.
Disppointing opening day for me. It is the Shed in namesake and bottled BBQ sauce. Service is slow, and despite having a large bar open to the inside and outside seating area, you can only order from the registers when you order your food....unless you ask different members of the staff, and then it is still up for debate. Drinks are fountain and bottle only. They do not have sweet and unsweet tea brewed like the MS counterpart. The BBQ itself was hit and miss on the meats we ordered. Ribs were fall off the bone and moist. However, brisket was very disappointing - just a large slice of fat from the point and not really edible. Macaroni, sweet potato casserole, and coleslaw were good and normal side sizes. Fried okra was around 8 pieces and warm when brought out. Asked for Mississippi gold sauce and got something else, probably the spicy. Overall wait time after ordering was over 30 minutes.
