Of all of the ice cream shops in Combe Martin I picked this one, glad I did too, not merely because they took card payments but the flavours available really took my fancy, reasonably priced for beach ice cream, flavours were good too, I can imagine it will take a few goes before this one is beaten. Mind you it was after walking along the SWCP from Valley of the Rocks with 16kg on my back.
Nice little cafe overlooking the beach.
Perfect location and brilliant views. Unlike the other cafes in the area, this cafe doesn't have a great selection of food (pasties, cakes, coffee and ice-cream is about the limit).
Poor quality food here. We ordered a cream tea but unfortunately the clotted cream was substituted for somerthing that had the consistency of warm butter. Very disappointing for a cream tea in Devon. Service was good and friendly.
Nice clean reasonable priced food. Friendly staff. Sat outside with views of beach and coastline. Thank you.
This place has the potential to be amazing with its beach front location. However we left feeling very disappointed with both service and quality of food. Eating area wasn’t particular clean either. Ordered two scone cream tea, cappuccino with vanilla shot and three hot chocolates (no children’s portions). Got green tea. No scones. No spoons and no vanilla shot in the cappuccino. When we requested scones just felt they were just thrown on a plate with jam and cream. No apology. Just felt we paid well over value for money. Would rather go without that visit here again.
The Redwood ice cream parlour is in a really nice location, pity the guy running isn’t as nice.
My wife went in to order a pot of tea for herself and a decaf coffee for me. She was told we don’t have decaf coffee but we do have mint tea. My wife then replied he doesn’t like tea and due to a heart condition he doesn’t drink regular coffee, so forget the coffee, but I’ll also have a Cornish pasty with the tea.She then went and sat at a table outside. I had popped round the corner to buy some chips as we didn’t think the ice cream parlour sold hot food. I came back sat down with my wife and we were sharing the chips I’d bought and the pasty she’d bought.
The owner then came out and in no uncertain terms told us we couldn’t eat the chips there as we hadn’t purchased them in his establishment, even though we tried to explain the tea and the pasty were bought in his shop. He still demanded we leave the table and go and stand at the road side.
The cafe had no other tables being used at the time so really can’t understand his rude attitude.
We will never again go into his cafe.
We can’t give a review of the food and drink as the service was so bad we left. We were told to sit down as it would be table service, but after 15 minutes of waiting without so much as a menu, while the 3 staff members stood around chatting out the back, and despite catching their eye for service a number of times, we decided they didn’t deserve our custom. Everyone else in the small cafe had been served so they can’t blame being busy. I’m sure they will be the first to moan about lockdown affecting their profits too…
